Why do I feel this? :(

Since the middle of the night I've had pain and pressure in my mid and upper abdomen. ?It feels like enormous gas bubbles that won't go anywhere. ?While lying down I was okay on my sides but it got way worse when I was on my back. ?Now that I've been up and around for a few hours it's lessened a bit but it's still there. ?::pout::

What the hell? ?Anybody have any insight?

Re: Why do I feel this? :(

  • I went through periods when I was having crazy gas pressure. What I found worked the best was to get down on my knees and elbows with my butt in the air, and stay like that for a good while - like 15 min. or so. If it gets uncomfortable then you can sit on your heels to rest and then go back to the pose again. It helped the gas bubbles rise to the top, so to speak, and either when I was in that position or when I got out of it and walked around a little bit I was able to "get rid" of the gas.?image

I also had some crazy abdominal pain at about 15 weeks that I actually thought was going to end up being?appendicitis??(I was :thisclose: from calling the ER) It was this horrible burning ache below and to the right of my belly button. But it went away after a couple days, and I'm figuring it was some sort of intestinal adhesion or scar tissue that had to free itself as my uterus expanded.

Good luck! It's crazy all the weird aches and pains that come and go. ?

  • It's possible that it could be heartburn, especially if it's worse when you lay down.  Try taking a bunch of Tums and/or some Zantac and see if that helps.  I had bad heartburn with Evie and didn't know what it was because (1) I'd never had it before; and (2) it was sharp pain, and not a burning sensation.

HTH!  I hope you feel better.

  • I think it's gas.

I had lots of GI "distress" from 16 weeks on.  I started eating smaller meals more frequently and avoided rich foods.  (Boo hoo!)  After dinner walks and prunes helped a lot.

  • I just drank some Metamucil Ick! and I think I actually have some prunes in the kitchen.

I've definitely had heartburn before, and this doesn't feel like what I've felt before. ?But I'll pop a few Tums just in case.

    Stupid intestines.?

  • I know that after having Ella, had some issues processing dairy for some reason and it felt just like that. Tums seemed to help, and I watched how much I consumed after that.

This sounds like round ligament pain...not fun!

  • Coulda been... I've definitely had RLP at other times. This would have been one mother of a round ligament! :)?

It was very near the site of a previous laparoscopy so that's why I guessed that.?

  • Not to freak you out or anything, but if the pain gets a lot worse, doesn't go away, and you get nausea with it, you should call your doctor. The pain in my upper abdomen that wouldn't go away no matter what I did turned out to be cholecystitis (gallstones) and I had to go to the hospital. I didn't know what it was and it was untreated long enough that I ended up getting

  • how the heck did that post before I was done?

Anyway, I ended up getting pancreatits and was stuck in the hospital forever. Apparently in some small number of women, pregnancy can kick your gall bladder into creating stones and it has to be removed.

I hope that's not what it is and that you feel better soon.

  • I would call your doc and let him decide if you should just tough it out or if he wants to see you.   There are tons of thngs going on in your abdomen when you're pregnant.  HOpefully it's just things rearranging and causing a lot of gas, but I always think it's better to be safe than sorry.  The worst that can happen is you go in and he says "yep, you have gas".

  • I've had this happen a few times and its just been horrible gas pains. I also just put my butt in the air and tried to "work it out." Ahh the glamours of pregnancy...
