How do I get DS to nap longer?

He sleeps great at night, but during the day he only takes like 30 minute cat naps.

Is there a way to get him to go down less often, but longer?

Aaannnnd, he's awake.  Tongue Tied

Re: How do I get DS to nap longer?

  • Where does he sleep when he takes his nap?  DD will only sleep a long time if she is in her crib.  If she is napping in my room or the living room she seems to wake up after only 30 minutes.

  • I wish I knew.  Some days, like today, it seems like Layna will only sleep while I'm holding her.

But yesterday she took a four hour nap.  Twice.

I don't have a clue what the difference is.

either in the PNP or his crib.  he sleeps longer if I'm holding him, but the point of all this is i need to get things done!  i tried wearing him too, which he likes, but i can't do much with him on me.  he doesn't even sleep long enough to get a full load of laundry folded!  I can tell he's tired, if i go pat his butt he sleeps for another 5 minutes or so.

  • Domenic did the same thing, he would only nap for 45 minutes at a time - but he would need to sleep every two hours from when he woke up. It was so frustrating.  What has been working for us over the last two weeks is that we hold him for an additional 15 minutes after he falls asleep.  I read it in one of the Dr. Sears books, and since we started he has been taking 1.5-2 hour naps....it might be coincidence, but its working for us so it might be worth a try.
  • I am sure he loves feeling you cuddle next to him...try rolling up a blanket or towel and cuddling it next to him along his side.  For awhile when DD was smaller she would only sleep if she felt someone next to her...we tricked her and the blanket did the job!  Hope it helps!
  • Try a pillow under him while you put him to sleep. Did this with DD all the time. I would lay her on the pillow and then I would hold the pillow with her on it. When she would fall asleep the transition to the bed was easy and I guess she liked it  being cuddled in it. DD wasn't a great sleeper so I had to get creative. To this day at night she will still walk over to our bed.

  • My guy (10 weeks old) sleeps for 45-60 minutes every two hours or so. but even that is only when he's in a carrier. I thought that was "normal". Are other babies out there sleep longer during the day? I don't know how to get him to sleep other than walking him in the carrier until he passes out.

So tht doesn't help bride, but maybe others have different experiences to share?

P.S. Bride, I have given up on folding too much laundry for a while. It kills me look at the dust bunnies on my floor, but it is just too much to keep up with. Maybe  in a few more weeks...
