We have our first diaper rash. It's really bad. I've used 4 types of cream and it doesn't seem to get any better.. suggestion? He's getting 4 new teeth and has been super fussy and poops a lot (sorry for the TMI)
I have heard to try dusting him with browned flour. (cook flour over high heat in a dry pan, stirring constantly until it turns brown and let cool). I keep a container of this in my freezer for gumbo right now, so I will try it out if I ever need to. Just be aware that it creates A LOT of smoke, so use your vent or do it outside on a portable burner.
Could it be a yeast rash? ?You could google some images - although they are a bit yucky/sad to look at - poor babies. ?DS usually only gets them on antibiotics, but he randomly got one out of nowhere once. ?We used nystatin ointment that was prescribed and an aquaphor barrier over it.
If he gets a regular rash, I normally just use Aquaphor or Burts Bees diaper cream.?
We tried Butt Paste and everything else with Sweetness and the only thing that works well is Desitin in the purple tube. She used to get a yeast infection when on antibiotics so we now put powder-form probiotics in her juice and no more yeast infections!
He needs to air out. Put a towel down on the bathroom floor and use your blow dryer on the cool setting for about 10 minutes. You will see it start to get better. Then slather him with A&D or Butt Paste. Some creams only create a barrier while other also have medication in them for the "burn". A&D, Dr. Smith's and Butt Paste are both barriers and medication.
Here's my top secret formula: A&D ointment with Ammend's medicated powder - make a thick paste and coat the poor kiddo. I've been surprised at what it can clear up almost overnight.
Just a little note - using flour, cornstarch, baby powder on their own is not a good idea because of the dust factor and their little lungs breathing it in - it is really not safe.
i agree that he needs to air out. after his bath, pat his bottom really dry and let him go without a diaper. in fact, any time you can get 5 mins without a diaper on, do it. diaper rash is in large part due tothe fact that they have to sit in moisture. if he is having the "drool stools" associated with teething, this is especially true.
we like desitin at night and aquafor (which is pretty much vaseline) during the day...
Pinxav is a miracle cure. I have heard that it is the best thing out there to clear up the worst rashes. It is pronounced pink salve and you may have to ask a pharmacist if they have it. It is not prescription but it is kept behind the pharmacy counter.
Re: Diaper Rash?
Same for Gideon.

that's the only thing that works for us too. it creates a nice barrier.
