Babies: 0 - 3 Months

anyone start babywise at 5 months old?

I have not read the book yet but my son is not sleeping through the night waking up multiple times and my friend had asked if I had read this book. she used it and it worked great for her, her son is 3 months. I of course will read the book to see if this is something I want to try but was curious to see if anyone tried this method this late? Or is 5 months considered late?

TIA for any suggestion or comments. I understand some really dont like the book (and would like to hear from you too if you have something to say) and I know nothing about it yet so I do not have an opionion either way yet.

  • ok opinion either way, that's a little better.: )

  • 5 months is still early if you want to CIO, and please read the book before you make your decision.

if you want to get on a schedule, such as EASY, i highly recommend Secrets of the Baby Whisperer.  i've read that book, and we are an EASY kind of family, but my DS just kind of fell into that schedule on his own, and we're not very rigid about it at all.

  • I have no idea what the hell any of this is.  What am I missing here?  EASY, babywise?  Must.Google.Now.
  • My cousin suggested it to me so I read it, and I didn't really like it - I thought it was poorly written. The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer are really similar, I liked that one better. If you want to try CIO Ferber (Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems) is really good, and you can start his method at around 4 months.

WHY?  my son is 4 months old & i can't bear to hear him cry.  ugh.  sad.

  • I was not a fan of the babywise books.  They have a little bit of good stuff in there, but the sleeping part and some of his other information was not really my style.  We also tried Baby Whisperer and while I like the easy routine, I did not care for pick up put down and dreamfeeding.  I also can not do CIO.  We are currently just doing whatever works to get him to go to sleep at night since that is really our only problem.  I would just read up on several different methods and pick what works for you.

  • Thanks for all the feedback, this is new to me since my first son just slept well naturally. All we had to do was put him to bed the same time every night and that was it. I was not sure if I needed to do something to prompt a schedule with our second or not. We currently have the same routine every night, nothing diffrent however we dont have any type of feeding schedule which some people say can help. We just feed him when he is hungry, not before and we do not wait.

I can read up on the diffrent methods which I planned to do and see how it goes. Thanks to you all!

  • I just read the book, my friend's baby (who is 3 weeks older then mine) has been sleeping through the night for months.  My son is just starting to get there on his own, I never followed the guidelines in the book, you have to do what is right for you, I just felt he was too young to cry it out, if he was hungry (which is why he was waking up) I felt he needed to be fed.  My friend swore by the book, it just wasn't for me...each situation is different...

Because that is what the author suggests, and some people can bear to hear their child cry if it helps them get much needed sleep.

  • I also have to recommend the EASY Baby Whisperer routine over the Babywise method. ?They are essentially the same, but Babywise recommends CIO. ?If you are ok with doing that with your baby then they have a whole section in the book on how to start with an older baby - 5 months is just fine! ?There is also an excellent blog (I'm not fancy and can't do the link thing:?https://babywisemom.blogspot.com/ ?She has excellent advice and will respond to your questions!

I am doing EASY and love love love it. ?It's definitely a lot more work involved in getting baby to sleep, but the results are great and a better option if you can't handle hearing baby cry! ?GL...?
