do i need a new dr?

that's more of a teaser question to get you all to read this....:)

I had my well woman exam today.  Last month my period never showed.  Last month we did not have sex.  I didn't take a pg test but I can 99.9% say I'm not pg.  I tell this to my dr. - i'm concerned why my period didn't show.

dr:  you didn't test?

me:  no, unless i'm the next virgin mary - i am not pg

dr: oh, so you're not active? (said like it's the most horrible thing in the world)

Is this any of his concern?  Do I need to be sexually active to be healthy or something?

Then later he asked if we were planning to have more children.  I didn't feel it was any of his business to know the real reason we aren't ttc, so i gave a partial truth: We're still getting the details in order - financially, etc.  And the nurse was like - yeah, college isn't cheap  ha ha.

Dr:  Well, you shouldn't let finances be the ONLY thing that sways you.

Really, you're my financial advisor now?

Dr:  Because you know, from a Biblical standpoint it says that God will provide.

I love(d) my dr.  I was not in the mood for this bs.   I believe in God, I know what HE says = i'm also not an IDIOT.  Man, he's just lucky my husband wasn't in the room.

Oh and i had to have lab work to make sure i'm not pg.  thank you for that extra bill.

  • That was really oversteping his bounds. Regardless of how he personally feels, it isn't his place to push that on you.

    Sounds like he needs business.

  • Seriously?  He was bringing up God during your visit?  Weirdo.

  • do you live in the South?

    lol

I ask b/c I grew up down there and this is SO something my friend's ob would say (so would my friend)

  • Oh neeser, that sucks :( I would be changing Drs fast if that were me. Those are not necessary comments.
  • Wow.  I would haev told him neither of you were interested in having sex last month.

I went to an ob doctor once (and only once) when I was pg (and I KNEW I was pg...my second and all the symptoms).  Well, he asked why I was there and I told him I was pg and needed to get things started (new city, new doctor, etc).  He said (in reference to me saying I was pg) that HE would be the judge of that.  I instantly did not like him!  He proceeded to do a complete exam and it hurt.  I've never had an exam hurt.  Two days later I mc'd.  Not saying it had anything to do with the exam but deep down I think it did.   Personally, if I were you I'd get a new doctor.  I did.

  • i'm in the midwest and i'm used to comments like that but dude, he was just out of line.

  • Yeah that wouldn't fly with me - either the financial or religious advice. I probably would have walked out - cloth gown and all.

  • Kidding - I wouldn't have walked out but I definitely would change doctors.
