Kind of personal-but those who take Xanex...

I have bad anxiety.  I usually take Klonopin.  I had a panic attack in December where everything shut down and I was convinced I was dying.  DH called 911 because he was so scared.  It was awful.

I had a 2nd one 2 weeks ago at 3 AM but DH helped me work though it alone.  Since I'm pregnant I try to take the Klonopin on a very limited basis, but I feel SO anxious all the time.  The OB ok'd it since as he put it "the repercussions of not taking it is worse than taking it."

Were you  more anxious during pregnancy?  And does Xanex work for you?

I'm afraid that this will continue after pregnancy and I'm just so tired of feeling this way.  I know a lot has to do with the c-section.

  • buttin in...I struggle with anxiety..I don't take meds though.  I am WAY worse when I am pg.  It drives DH insane.

I don't think you need to fear that it will stay that bad after pg, when my hormones and the newness of the baby wears off I tended to go back to being the 'old' me, like 3 months after birth.  (but I was definitly better like 3-4weeks pp than I was pg)

    ditto.

  • My sister has anxiety, I think she takes zoloft?  But it got much, much worse during pregnancy, and then started to taper off gradually after she had the baby.

    Good luck and take care.

  • I take Zoloft for anxiety.  I went off of it when I was pregnant with Will, and to my surprise had absolutely no issues.  However, after Will was about six weeks old, the anxiety came back and was almost crippling to me.  I went back on it at a higher doses, and have only had issues when I've not taken it (I have a tendency to forget).  I can tell when I forget to take it.  I hate that I'm dependent on the medication, but right now it gets me through the day.

  • I've never taken xanax, but I have been on Zoloft long term. I do have major anxiety issues. My OB told me it was ok to take Zoloft throughout pregnancy as long as it was 50mg or less per day. The only implication that I was warned of during pregnancy was that some babies had minor breathing difficulties after delivery. I weaned off of it by 20 weeks pg, but if I had to do it again I would have continued it. I was a hot mess at the end.
  • And one more thing- I was also cleared to BF on Zoloft on a lower dose. I started back the day I delivered DD. I just stick to 25 mg for now.
  • I was the most calm I have ever been while I was pregnant.  My anxiety kicked into seriously high gear after I had dd.  I worry about every little thing.  For example, when she started eating table food I was always within inches because I was so afraid she would choke on something...things like that. I think everyone reacts differently to hormones, and if you are worse while pregnant you will probably better after.

My grandmother had the worst anxiety I have ever seen and refused to take medication.  She thought it meant she was crazy, because as a child she watched 2 of her relatives get put into homes for the same things. She led a miserable life because of it, and I will take any help i can get so that doesn't happen to me.

  • Responding late but wanted to add. I have anxiety issues also. I finally just admitted and went to a doctor about it a few months ago. I take Lexapro everyday and Xanax as needed. Actually, I dont take the Xanax hardly at all. I did at first because the Lexapro takes a few weeks to kick in. I feel such a difference. I never really knew completely that how I felt before wasn't "normal." I am much calmer and at ease..I think it has also made me more social. GL--Anxiety is the worst!

  • I don't feel MORE anxious while pregnant.  I do have the added anxiety over going through childbirth again, but not enough to say it's made me that much worse.

I can't take things like Zoloft, so Xanax is it for me.

    I take Ambien to sleep.

I can go an entire week without taking a Xanax.  I don't really take it for anxiety, it's more anger issues.  Works like a charm.

But, no, being pregnant doesn't seem to make me more or less anything, so I guess that's a good thing!
