Regular bedrail on convertible crib?

We are getting ready to convert DS's crib to a toddler bed and I was wonder if anyone has used a regular bed rail on a convertible crib?  You can buy a convertible crib rail that goes with our crib (or a universal one), but I don't think DS will be in it that long and I hate to spend so much money on one for the crib when we'll need a regular one for a big bed too soon.  Do you think a regular one would work?

Re: Regular bedrail on convertible crib?

  • We got a regular bed rail. They said on the package not for use with toddler beds, but it works fine. We had no other option since our crib did not come with the option to get one.

We've never had a problem with it. It's been fine. We even asked our pedi about it and he said he didn't see a problem as long as it worked and there was no risk of suffocation (we got one with mesh).

  • I actually have a regular bedrail I was going to use on DDs converted crib, but I actually found it unnecessary.  She doesn't have a problem with falling out and its so close to the ground, she wouldn't go far so I haven't used it..
  • I put one of those pool noodles under the sheet to jolt my son if he was going to fall out.  Like the pp said it is so close to the ground that I was not too concerned.  The noodle worked well.  He could still get in and out of his bed.  Hope this helps.
