? re. introducing Egg yolk

When I intro new food, I offer it 4-5 days in a row to check for allergies, but I shouldn't offer him an egg yolk everyday for that long, right? It just seems like a lot for a little boy. How did you do it? Can I just offer him a little bite? Is that enought to cause a reaction, if he is allergic?

Re: ? re. introducing Egg yolk

  • Egg yolk actually isn't the allergen issue - it's egg white.

You don't need to offer the new food every day for so long... I would just give him a bite or two of eggs a couple of times and see how he does.  He's almost 1 right?  by then I was not doing the 4 day rule at all...  :)

  • I was wondering how long I have to keep up the single foods rule!

btw, I know this sounds crazy, but I'm nervous that a trace amount of egg white might get in, and cause a possible reaction :) Yes, I know I'm being paranoid :) considering there is no family history of food allergies....

  • Do you have benedryl in the house?  I offered cruz peanut butter and within minutes he had red blothes around his mouth.  I gave him benedryl and watched him for a bit and it went away.

In three weeks, he'll be "allowed" to have egg whites.  So really, I wouldn't worry much.

BUT, I know I was also a freak about this stuff.  The first time I gave Ben any dairy I did it at parent/baby class at Evergreen so I would be at the hospital already in case something happened!  :)

And I still haven't given Ben any peanuts.  I just did almonds a week or two ago.

I never bothered to try egg yolk separate from white.  Oh wait, I did.  With a hard boiled egg.  He hated it.   And really, he still doesnt' eat eggs.  He doesnt' like them at all - he has them in baked goods of course, but he wont' just eat scrambled eggs like normal kids!

But anyway, a hard boiled egg is an easy way to try the egg yolk on its own.
