Houston Babies

how do you tell if they are sick or just 2?

Addie has been quite a pisser the past few days. She's woke up cranky and whiney. She cries all morning until we get in the car (usually a couple hours after she gets up). She fusses or whines at breakfast, while being held, when she's not held, etc. She threw quite a fit this morning over putting a jacket on.

Normally she's a happy kid. She's had kind of a cold for about a week, and was a bit fussy and clingy for the past couple weeks, but nothing compared to this. Is it an age thing? I wonder if it's an ear infection (she's only had one and didn't have any signs like ear tugging then). I'd hate to take her to the dr and have them say "she's 2, there's no medicine for that"

Re: how do you tell if they are sick or just 2?

  • it could totally be either. i say take her to the Dr and let them tell you. they're used to it ;)

if she is just getting over being sick, this might be a lingering reaction to a different routine- even if it's all internal for her...

truitt's behavior turned 2 about 6 mos ago, so if you have been in the clear up until this point consider yourself lucky :)

  • ditto V.  Always better to be on the safe side.  Kaitlyn throws the tantrums and is whiney, but it's a different whiney when she's sick, thankfully.  However sometimes just feeling 'off' for whatever reason confuses the whines for me, so I totally feel your pain! hehe

  • ditto.  Take her to the doctor because sounds like something is bothering her.  Emmy gets really fussy and when the doctor looks at her ears, it's not a full blown infection, but thick fluid which can cause a little pain.  She never tugs on her ear when it's bothering her.

  • If her fussiness has lasted a couple of days it wouldn't hurt to take her in. ?I know Orion sometimes has bad days where I can't seem to do anything right and he throws a fit over everything. ?But they usually just last a day and he's back to his happy self. ?If it lasts more than a day I suspect there is something physically bothering him.

  • Off subject - I owe you an apology.  I am so sorry I forgot about your email - I just sent you a reply, but I know it is probably too little too late.

I just emailed you back! Don't worry, I thought you had answered me on a post one day anyway.
