We use Costco's Kirkland free and clear for regular laundry. It gets "good" but not "excellent" ratings for CD laundry. I will use it f I need, but I like having a milder, more EF detergent for CD's. Basically, I have no good reason.
When we run out of the Kirkland, I will probably use Biokleen for all our laundry.
I believe it has to do with the soap it causes repelling and build up issues

Tina got it right.. the soap and other crap in the detergents can build up and make your diaper repel.
I Love our Crunchy Clean for diapers.. its working wonderfully.
Yay! See I do pay attention to the CD posts! LOL

Re: Please clarify: Why do you use special detergent only for CDs?

Just to clarify, not all "regular" detergetns cause build-up and repeling.
Most Free and Clear "regular" ones are fine- it is just the dyed, scented, "whitening", etc that is the problem.
