Dh sent me an email that he thinks we might want to splurge on the bugaboo stroller. He thinks it looks good, and we live in an urban area, walk alot of places etc, thinks it would be good. A friend of ours in LA has one and recommended it to us.
If you have it or chose it, it is really great? What do you like about it?
I'm doing some reasearch on it now and am getting mixed reviews. We can afford if we want to, but I don't want to spend a lot of money just because something is trendy. I don' particularly love the way it looks but I don't hate it either. I want a stroller/travel system that will be comfortable for the baby, easy to use, etc. I'd also like it to be cute, but easy and safety are the most important to me.
I really liked the Maclaren grand tour lx before I knew how much it cost, but i don't really need all it's bells and whistles.
Does the bugaboo even have a place where I can put my bag, or a tray thing to put on that could hold a sippy cup. I can't seem to find pics or accessories that show that.
Sorry this is so long.
Re: Did anyone choose the bugaboo stroller? Advice needed.
Bugaboo looks cute - that's about it. We went for the Bumbleride flyer... same type of design but more compact, easier to maneuver and more storage underneath.
We live in NYC and the Bumbleride was the only choice for us.
One of the other moms in my boot camp class has one. We are in Philly and she loves it for navigating the city. I can't speak to the specifics, but I know she is really happy with it and recommends it highly.
I considered it but my DH hated the way it looks. We ended up with the Maxi Cosi Foray and the MC Mico car seat. It has the convenience of a travel system but is way lighter and not as bulky. I love it and use it all over the city

I didn'tregister for the bugaboo, but some friends pitched in and bought it for us. I've had it nearly 2 years now. so here's the scoop:
I live in Pittsburgh, and walk EVERYWHERE (we have one car, so guess who doesn't get it
) when ben was small, i mainly walked in the sling. Once he hit about 8 months or so, i started going on longer walks, and he was too heavy for me.. so on to the stroller.
pros: it's a really, really, cool stroller. you will look like a rock star with one, i'm not kidding. other bugaboo moms will stop you and gush. Plus, it's cool enough that DH will use it- it's got those manly air filled tires at the back.
It's really easy to configure any of the ways that you need it to be- wheels in front, back, bassinet to stroller, recline,etc.. can't say enough- it's one touch for most of those (with the exception of bassinet to stroller, you have to take the cover off, and switch it around.
Great flexibility and handling- it literally turns on a dime, and is a cinch to push one handed into a store while holding the door.
Great storage- the stuff sack underneath may not look like much, but man, you can fit EVERYTHING in there. i'm not kidding. I've pushed diaper accessories, groceries, library books, the rain hood, change of clothes, and even my coat if it gets hot, and still no sign of overflow. it's pretty sweet.
Now for some cons..
first of all, i didn't buy it, but damn. that thing is expensive. 800$ for a stroller? are you kidding?? If i was paying, honestly, i'd get a standard stroller at walmart for what, like 150? and call it a day. I can't stomach spending so much for such a thing. seriously.
second. accessories. not much. if you want anything other than a rain and mosquito shield, as well as a nifty repair kit, you're going to pay. tray for a sippy cup? they don't even make it. you can buy some universal ones online, but again, something that expensive, imho, should come with EVERYTHING>
same goes for a cupholder for you- one of my fave things to do is stop at the coffee shop before my hour long walk, and while the bugaboo is easy to maneuver, it's pretty heavy, so you're going to need 2 hands most of the time, unless you routinely squeeze rocks and have iron hands.
yes, it's heavy. don't even think about trying to take it up and down stairs with the baby in it, aint gonna happen.
travel with it is a bit awkward. we flew to CA over thanksgiving, and i had to take off the wheels, undo the bag, lay it completely flat before it would go through the x-ray. kind of a pain to put back together while retrieving your own shoes, belt, and toddler trying to cause a security alert.
I guess that's about it. hope it was useful, sorry for the novel.. good luck in your decision.
From what I understand, in order to fold the bugaboo, you have to take the seat off (and even then i'm not sure whether it's a one hand fold).
So, it's great for cities if you're walking everywhere, but not great for getting into a taxi, jumping on an escalator, etc.
while i do not have it - i know a lot of moms who do (it's VERY trendy here in the NYC area to have a bug)...
those who have it are not crazy about it at all.
I have spoken to a woman at a boutique store that sells all the high end strollers and the new stroller of choice is the Orbit - she showed me why- and I was sold. I have a child already and can see the HUGE benefits of the Orbit stroller with all it's attachments, arrangements, etc.
If i were going to spend that much on a stroller I would get the Orbit- hands down.... the Bug really doesn't do anythign special- the orbit has SO many great benefits. I suggest going to a store that sells both and getting a full demo for both - you will be sold on the orbit - esp if you know what day to day with an infant/toddler is like! the orbit does a lot to make life easier.
The Stokke is also selling a lot more than the Bug now, too - but i'm not crazy about it... don't see the real benefit other than how the child can sit in it high up closer to the parent- nice for eating out, etc... I didn't like how it drove - felt "creeky" if that makes sense.
I have a Phil & Teds which is a great option if you plan to have a 2nd child any time soon - b/c the add on toddler seat makes it a double, yet does not take up any more space- which is perfect for city living. It's getting very popular in the city for families with 2 now.
Just wanted to put in my 2 cents...
We bought a Bugaboo Bee (not sure which one other posters have) and I'm having mixed feelings towards it now. I was so happy when we bought it because I think it's so cute but now with the reality of the baby coming I'm a bit worried.?
I will say it's very easy to fold/unfold and pretty light. It's also very compact when folded. It's really nice to push, IMO, and seriously turns on a dime just like a previous poster said. You can buy other canopy colors for about $50 so you can change up the color every now and then if you like, too, which seems nice.
The things I'm nervous about are that you can't really get to the basket from the back, you pretty much have to go around to the front because of the "handle" for carrying when folded. Like a previous poster said the accesories are expensive and not very involved. I really wish there was a cup holder accessory that could hold more than one cup and had a pocket for keys and cell phone or something. Also, as of right now, it only works with Graco infant car seats and the adapter is sold separately and not cheap! One last pet peeve, the seat is not that easy to turn around, not that you'd be doing that all that often.
At this point, I wish we had gone with the UppaBaby Vista :-/ For the money you get SO much more with the Vista. Too bad the Vista won't fit in my Mini Cooper trunk!?
