How many contractions do you have a day?

Today it seems like I'm having more BH contrax than usual.  I was up and about all morning and afternoon...probably overdid it a bit.  I've been resting and drinking a lot of water.  I was just curious how many other people have in a day.

Re: How many contractions do you have a day?

  • I had TONS...basically everytime I did anything.  I had to stop doing stairs around 25 weeks... bending over, sitting to pee, anything at all.

Rest as much as you can.  I know it's hard but it is really important.

  • Well, from 27w on, I had BH every three minutes or so.  I didn't feel many of them, but everytime I was monitored, there they were.  I went to L&D after feeling more than 6 in an hour, a couple hours in a row.  Thankfully, my cervix was in good shape and there were no other signs of PTL.  My peri ended up putting me on modified bedrest at that point.  I had no other issues and delivered at 36w5d.

Most doctors have a certain number in an hour that they want you to call/go to L&D.  It's usually somewhere around 4-6 an hour, depending on the doctor.  If you have concerns, definitely give your doctor a call.  It may be absolutely nothing (BH, in and of themselves without other signs of PTL are generally harmless), but it's something you should get checked out.   Too much exercise, too little water, not peeing frequently enough, UTIs, etc. can all cause BH.  In my case, the theory was just that my uterus was stretched a ridiculous amount.

Best of luck.  I hope they pass soon.

  • It really depends on the day.  I'm a little worried as I haven't had any since at least Friday which is weird for me.  Mondays which are typically my day back to work after the weekend (though not this week because of the holiday) I have alot.  I had at least 25 last Monday.  Then Tuesday I only had 3 or 4.  It depends on how much I walk it seems.  The more I move the more I have.
