3rd Trimester

Runners? Which Bob jogger?

I am wondering which Bob stroller those of you who have one like best.  I am an avid runner 4-6 miles 4-5 days a week, and I plan to train for a maraton this summer after our baby is born.  I want a really high quality jog stroller and have settled on a Bob, but I don't know which one.  The Ironman with one big wheel in the front or the Revolution with the smaller wheel in front.

Any thoughts?

Re: Runners? Which Bob jogger?

  • I would get the Iron man if I were you.  I'm getting the SUS b/c we have so much snow here and I need those big heavy-duty tires.  Hope it works good in the summertime also.  I don't run as much as you, more like 14 miles/week or so.

  • I run 30-40 miles a week and I ended up going with the Revolution after talking to lots of runners.  The Ironman is great, but I wanted something with a little bigger tires bc I run on trails and dirt roads sometimes. I've heard good things about both of them, though! GL training for your marathon! Will it be your first?
  • we got the ironman for running. I thought the revolution was more of an everday/walking stroller but i could be totally wrong.

  • the Revolution seemed like a more everyday stroller to me too, but when I took the Bob survey online it reccomended the Revolution.  This will be my first marathon.
  • 2-3 moms in my running group (all marathoners) have the Revolution...I think it's more a matter of where you run since both have the locking front wheel.
  • My DH is a big runner.  I do 1/2 marathons, but mostly walk.  We have a Chariot.  I like it because it is great for all types of weather and also has a low center of gravity, which is nice here, since it is hilly.  If you want to use it for anything other than running, I would get the revolution.  I know a few hard core runners who prefer the swivel wheel.  Personally, I think the fixed wheel is best for running and safer.  For our chariot, we have a fixed wheel for running and can easily trade out for the swivel wheels for walking.

We also have a Mountain buggy urban, which is similar to a bob revolution, but a bit smaller.  We have never used it to run with, but you could definitely jog with it, though I think the larger wheels on the chariot are much better, especially as DD gets bigger.

  • I got the SUS for Christmas but haven't tried it yet since Baby's not here until Feb AND you can't use it anyway until they have head control.

The BOBgear Website has a questionnaire that's really helpful in determining which stroller would work best (based on terrain, types of use, your training schedule, etc.) Click HERE for the link

Also, that's great for you to train for a marathon so quickly! Definitely an inspiration--- until about the middle of the 2nd trimester I used to have your same mileage (~25 mi/wk), but from the beginning of month 8, I'm only able to do 1/2 mile (sheesh!) and have to supplement with the Elliptical machine.

    HTH!

  • oh sorry- should have read where you did the online questionnaire already!
  • we have friends who do marathons and they have the ironman and love it. also it was recommended because the wheels are larger and it is easier if you are on bumpier roads/sidewalks or any find of trail running. when we tested them out at the store I like how the ironman handled and it seemed much steadier/stable.

  • I'd recommend the Ironman if you are mostly going to use it for running. Both because of the larger wheels and fixed front wheel (the front wheels that swivel and lock can shimmy a lot when running). We have the Ironman and love it. It takes a bit more maneuvering when just using it for walking, but it really is fine.
  • I'm getting the Revolution. I don't have experience with it, but it has great reviews.
  • I just wanted to add you can use the jogger with an infant, you just want to be sure and get the carseat adapter and have the baby in the carseat until he/she is 6 months old. The concern isn't just head control but also development of their back muscles.
