Did your c-section scar bleed?

I just noticed a small dot of blood on my underwear in the c-section scar area. I asked my husband to look and he saw some blood on the incision. When he put a tissue too it, it was tender. (It has been tender for the last couple days.) It wasn't actively bleeding though.

I have had a bit of a cough the last few days and when I cough that side hurts. I am thinking I just irritated it by coughing, but I am worried about it getting infected. (I had a wound that got infected when I was young and it was awful).

I don't know if I should call the dr. My husband doesn't think it is a big deal. (He is an EMT.)

There is no pus.

Did anyone have any bleeding from their c-section incision? The dr never warned of it.

I had the c-section on January 8th. (Still need to updated my signature.)

Re: Did your c-section scar bleed?

  • I don't remember bleeding from it. Mine did drain something that I originally had believed was blood. It was a reddish orange color. Mine did end up being infected. My other symptoms were the area around the incision feeling very warm and the skin around it was also red.

  • I never had any bleeding from either of my incisions. I would call your Dr just to be sure. You don't want to risk it getting infected or reopening more. They may want to check it.
  • I'm not sure about the actual bleeding but if I were you I would just go and get it checked out. I thought something was wrong with my incision area and happened to be across the street from labor and delivery when the advice nurse told me that is where I would go anyway. I went and I ended up having an infection. I caught it early enough where I wasn't pussing or anything but it was swollen and hot to the touch and they had to probe into it.  If it is infected the earlier you catch it the better.  However, the coughing and what not may have just opened it up a little since you are just 10 days out.
  • Mine did a few weeks pp.  It got really tender and kinda swollen looking, just on one side.  So I called the doc and he said that the one side is where they kinda tied everything up so it's going to be more tender.  He said some bleeding is normal, as long as it doesn't have pus and doesn't smell.  I put some neosporin on it and took my pain meds and it was fine within a few days.  Apparently this happens and is normal, I don't know why they don't tell you that!

  • I also had a little tiny bit of blood on the waistband of my underwear and the incision was tender, but it feels much better now and the bleeding was only for a day or 2.  I would only worry if there was puss/swollen/redness on the incision.  I had mine on Dec. 16, and this was only a week ago that I had the bleeding.
  • mine was infected, so it bled and there was pus as well.  either way, call.  you DON'T want it infected.  this is really something it's better to be "safe than sorry" about.  trust me.
  • I bled from mine. There was one part that didnt close together as well as the rest. It was a bit irratating. My doc said as long as it doesnt look red on the skin around the insision, its ok. I just had to have mine checked weekly for infection. I'm 8 weeks pp and all is well
  • I had some blood that was watery looking about 10 days after my c-section. I called and spoke with the nurse and she said it was fluid from the tissue in the area where they cut, she said it's normal to see some bleeding for a few weeks after the c-section as long as the skin is not red and there in no pus. She also mentioned something about lumps beneath skin not being a good sign either.

  • Thanks. I ended up calling b/c I took a nap and when I got up it was bleeding more. The dr said that unless it fills a pad or gets really painful, just to come into the office on Monday. She didn't want to send me to the ER. I am still worried, but I also don't want to go to the ER with a 9 day old baby. (Well, I don't want to go at all.) I am hoping it stops tonight.
