step2 kitchen recommendation?

I am trying to decide between and compare a few of the Step2 kitchens, ranging from about $89-169.  Of course I'm leaning towards the $169, but it's expensive and any info would be fantastic!

Also if you got any deals somewhere.. unlikely but would be a deal breaker!

Re: step2 kitchen recommendation?

  • We have the Party Time kitchen for DD, and she loves it.  We got it before Christmas at Fleet Farm for about $130-140.  There's not a ton of storage space, so I have bins next to the kitchen for her pots & pans sets and play food.  It has a working clock, microwave, fridge, oven, and stove.  The two pans it comes with are plastic but they fit on the front burner so that one makes a sizzling sound and one makes a boiling sound.  There's also a light above the stove.  I think it took DH a couple hours to put together by himself.

  • I also have the party time kitchen that the pp has.  DS is a bit young for it but he loves the sizzling sounds of the frying pan and boiling pot.  He also loves the cell phone on it- that is his favorite part right now.  I got it as a present so I don't know price- sorry.  The only negative to the kitchen is that it didn't come with any food- maybe that is all kitchens- but I found a huge thing of plastic foods (fruits, cans, ice creams, etc) at Target for $10.

I wish my dh put it together.  He's so NOT handy!!  LOL.  I put it together in about 2 hours (with some interruptions by ds).  It wasn't hard if you follow the directions but you definitely need an electric screwdriver- it's impossible by hand.

  • We have the Step2 Deluxe kitchen. We bought it direct from step2.com over Christmas. It's $219 now, but was $197 when we bought it and had free shipping (not sure if they're still doing it). When I checked during Christmas, Step2.com was the cheapest place for this kitchen.

DD LOVES the kitchen. It's got tons of storage for all of her existing play food and plates. She loves the sink, the sizzling burner, the utensil drawer, the phone and just about everything else. It was largely assembled when it arrived. It took 2 leisurely hours to assemble the kitchen and slide. Ditto the electric screwdriver.

We decided to get a larger kitchen because we figured DD (and any future siblings) would use it for a long time and we didn't want to have to upgrade in a few years.

  • I have the one with the cherry motif with the working clock and front burner than sizzles, microwave makes noise. I love it because it is pretty compact and we don't have a ton of space, but there is still plenty of room for her to play. DD loves it. It took DH an hour or two to put together but it wasn't bad.

I think it was regularly $159 and I got it for $139 before Christmas at Toys R Us.

  • I also wanted to add that I don't think any child has ever been disappointed in their play kitchen. I've only ever read good reviews from Nesties about whichever kitchen they ended up purchasing!

For true! Cool  You could probably put a cardboard box together in the shape of a kitchen and dc would be happy as a clam. lol.  stinkers!   (I have no opinion on this brand... we have a big wooden set from hearthsong... dc = happy as a clam)
