Do you print out all your pictures and put them in "old-fashioned' photo albums? Do you do digital photobooks like shutterfly? Or just keep them on the computer?
I've been doing shutterfly books for Abby's first year. I need to do one for the past six months. Anyone use any other digital photobook sites and like the quality? Discuss.
Re: What do you do with all your pictures?
I used to print them out (like the first 5 mos) but I take so many photos and I am completely unable to choose which ones to print, so for now they're all just saved on my comptuer and backed up on a separate hard drive, too. I don't think I'll ever print them all out, there's about 4,000 pics.
The "milestone" pics are all labeled separately and those will eventually be printed out and put into an album. I add words to the picture in Photoshop ("First tooth! Date) and save them. That will be her baby book.
I've never made a photobook, sorry.
I put them online on photo CDs for the year, but I pull my faves from each month and make him a scrapbook with my faves for the year. I give it to him as a present. Which actually, I need to start since his birthday is coming up lol
I do with all of the kids and they really enjoy it. And it's fun for me to look at too!
How do you do canvases? I've seen them on shutterfly. Do you use full res JPGs for these?
Ditto on the backups, we have a backup harddrive that does backups each time the computer shuts down; it would be devasting to loose all your DCs precious pictures if you computer crashed and I don't trust CDs either. That's also why I wondered about printing out 4x6's b/c there are so many but if you don't print them out or do a book, they get forgotten in the computer over time...
I love pictures and have gone a bit crazy with them. I use mpix for printing my pictures- they do the best job but they're a little more expensive than shutterfly. I put them in "old-fashioned" albums. I really need to stop because I've filled up 5 albums in ds's 1st year!
I did a year in review for his first year with a digital album. I used shutterfly and I'm happy with it. I actually did everything on powerpoint (putting in all the pictures and text and clipart) and then saving each powerpoint slide as a jpeg and uploading each jpeg as a separate page in shutterfly. I told you- I'm crazy. It just allowed me to have more flexibility with the pages and add more pictures to each page.
As for where to go for digital, shutterfly is fine for most stuff but if you want really good quality, go to www.mpix.com. Their color correction is better than any other place I've seen. The paper on which they print is better and they have so many options for other corrections.
I do NOT recommend snapfish. I really don't like the orange tint they have on stuff.

i have done one shutterly photobook, keep the rest on wal-mart's website, and i print out my favorites from there. it is 9 cents a copy, and i'll do a run every 5-6 months (so, um, well that would be twice now). I have run out of photobooks to hold them all. i just like something tangible.
oh, and I did save to cds - about 5 of them total. i am totally stealing MC's idea to put them in the safe.
OMG! I could be an advocate for this crap! LOL
I print and put every pic I take in age order in a regular album (old school w. slots) and the best ones I make a digital scrap book with...I made one book for her first year and then a sep. book for her first bday. I use Picaboo.com THEY ARE THE BEST!!! HANDS DOWN!!! Ive used shutterfly, my publisher, etc...they have th ebest deals, best coupons, best backgrounds, clip art, styles, themes, etc.
Here is a link for the book I made for Madison's first year (I think I had to add more at this point).....Im a HUGE picture freak (after all, its really all we have when everythings over) so theres LOTS of pics in it.
