DS has been straining to go to the bathroom the past three days. When he does it is very hard and pebble like. I have called the dr twice and still no call back. He .is on soy because he was having trouble with regular milk when he was younger. what have your drs suggested?

"Treatment of infant constipation varies by age. For infants 2 months or younger, call your baby's doctor for advice on treatment. For infants older than 2 months, give them 2 to 4 ounces of water twice a day in addition to their usual fluid intake. If constipation doesn't improve, give them 2 to 4 ounces of fruit juice twice a day. For infants older than 4 months who are already eating solid foods, give them baby food that's high in fiber ? such as peas, beans, apricots, prunes, peaches or pears ? twice a day until constipation improves. You may also apply a small amount of water-based lubricant to your baby's anus to ease stool passage. "
I've put a little pear juice in her bottle and that has worked.

We literally JUST went through this. Pedi told us to try giving 2-4 oz of water per day (we just mixed extra water w/his formula). When that didn't work, they suggested prune juice - 1/2 oz mixed w/a 1/2 water. We were just about to do that when DS had an explosive, painful, but very large and soft poop, LOL.
He is still having issues though, so I am not sure if we have solved the problem or not...
