Manual Breast Pumps?

I'm renting a Medela Symphony. Now that Max is home I have used it three times? I want to return it and get my own but I probably will only use a pump once a week.

Have you used a manual pump?

If so what one?

I just dont know if I should buy an electric one.

Re: Manual Breast Pumps?

  • Honestly, I found the manual Medela pump to be completely useless (the manual parts came with my PISA). I'd splurge for the electric, especially if you think you'll only be pumping once a week. That could be difficult, so you'll want as much power as you can get.

  • I LOVE my manual pump.  I found that it actually worked better and faster than the hospital pump.  You can easily control the suction.  It may have just been me, but I love mine..  I have an Avent Isis.  You can use the avent bottles with it..  The entire thing can go in the dish washer.  I think this time I'm just going to use that and forget the other stuff..

  • I just bought the Lansinoh manual pump for an easier option---I really like it!   I get the same amount I get from my hospital grade with the exception that you can only do one side at a time.  My forearms may get quite the workout if I use it all the time, though...
  • I liked my Avent Isis, once I got the hang of it.
  • I bought the Medela Harmony for when I went back to OH b/c I didn't want to take the electric one and it was great.  I was able to get just as much milk from the manual as I did from my electric.

  • I only pump occaisionally and the manual works just fine for me.  I use the medela (harmony, I think?).  Good suction too but it likely just takes a bit longer, I would think.  I just don't pump enough to justify an electric.
  • you might look in to the medela swing. it's a single pump but runs on a battery. i love mine!

  • Meant to mention - I did prefer my Lansinoh double electric, once I got it, but a manual still can be handy - especially if you rarely pump.
