Preemies

WWYD?

Rowen is in Gymboree in the 16-22 month class. here is the thing, he is 23 months old and almost 24 months. he towers over all the other kids, he is in like the 90% for his weight and height. but developmentally he is a few months behind in some things. so should i keep him in this class and ignore the stares or move him to the next one and he'll be behind the other kids?

i hope i don't have this problem in pre-school and stuff?

Re: WWYD?

  • Personally I would keep him in the class that is developmentally appropriate.   Try to not let the stares bother you.  If someone happens to say something about his size just say "I know - he's 90% for height and weight.   We're thinking about starting him at linebacker soon" or something similiar.   Being 1-2 months behind in a couple of areas is not uncommon so it shouldn't be a huge deal.

Most preemies catch up by age 2 or 2 1/2 so most likely you won't have to worry about it for too much longer.

  • Is it possible to "test drive" the other class to see what it is like and then make a decision?
  • Loading the player...
  • I would see if you can try the other class and see how it goes.  If that isn't an option, keep him where he is at.
