seperation anxiety

My son is 4 and a half and has been going to pre-school for almost two years now.  Just recently, maybe a month and a half, he has been clinging to me and crying that he doesn't want to go to school. When I drop him off the teacher has to take him otherwise he will try to follow me out or he won't let go of me.

We have made a sticker chart at home to reward him for being a big boy and going to school.  It worked for about three days. I don't know what to do or what else to try.

 Any suggestions or advice?

Re: seperation anxiety

  • I would talk to the teacher asap and find out what changed. Maybe something happened and he is scared to be there.
  • I have talked to the teachers.  he is fine a few minutes after I leave but I leave him crying everyday.  It just seems to be the situation of me leaving him. I really don't know.  He is a very happy child and a very good child.

I just don't know what else to do. I'm thinking maybe it is just a phase and it's just something we'll have to get through.
