Schlotzskys and deli meat?

I just got back from Schlotzskys and I had a turkey sandwich.  Now I am wondering if that is considered "deli meat" that I am suppose to avoid?  And if the sandwich was toasted, is that considered heating up the meat enough to kill the bacteria?  I was SO hungry that I did not even think about it until I was half-way done eating.

Thanks!

Re: Schlotzskys and deli meat?

  • If it makes you feel any better, I have been eating Schlotsky's my whole pregnancy. It's one of my weekly cravings.
  • It does.  Thank you.  I am just so paranoid!

  • I am probably not the best person to answer, because I have had non heated deli meat both pregnancies, not every day, but I have on occasion.

Anyway- to answer your question. Yes, that would be considered deli meat.  Anytime I have ever had a Schlotzskys sandwich the meat itself has always been warm, so yes I think that would be considered heating the meat.

  • I ate deli meat the whole time too.  I think as long as its from a safe place you're fine.  I would consider Schlotzski's safe.  :)
  • My OB doesn't want me eating deli meat either, but said as long as it's heated it's fine.  She specifically said Quiznos and Schlotzky's are safe.  A few times I've forgotten and gotten a cold sub from Subway and I've been okay.
  • I eat deli meat all the time too. I'm sure you'll be fine..especially because it was heated.
  • My OB also said deli meat is fine as long as it's heated.  I eat a hot sub at least once a week.  There's no way I could have survived without my weekly Potbelly!

Good to know!  I forgot to ask my OB about this the last time I was in there.  I am not a huge fan of sandwiches in the first place, but every now and then, I like a nice toasted sub.

  • I ate Schlotzsky's every Friday when I was pg with Rhett. I also thought it was heated up enough to be okay.
