Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Those with baby boys...

I have a penis question.  It seems like DS's penis is doing something weird.  I would describe it as a turtle hiding its head lol.  The head is always inside the shaft when I go to change his diaper.  I have to kinda squeeze it (WEIRD) to pop it back out.  Is this bad??  I made the mistake of asking DH "because he has one" and he said he has no clue because he doesn't have a baby penis lol.  TIA.

  • I know my circ'd little man it almost seems like the skin is going to cover up the hole!!!  I'm starting to freak.  I'm going to ask pedi at our next visit.

  • That happens with DS's penis sometimes, too.  I asked DH, too, and he wasn't concerned, he just said to pull it out.  My doctor had also told me to slide the shaft down every once and awhile - I guess to make sure it doesn't stick like that?
  • your not going to like this. We have the same problem and the pedi said its because they didn;t cut enough skin off when he was circumcized. We have an appt in March to have him redone so he looks "normal" like MH.

And my DS is circ'd as well.

  • LOL, I hope it is normal cause my son has it too (and is circumsized).  The Dr said that can happen cause of the fat babies have below the belly button, or something like that.  Apparently that fat goes away as they get old and it quits hiding.  Honestly it almost looks like we didn't circumcise him, but I know we did.
  • You need to keep pulling the skin back at every diaper change.  He may be starting to get an adhesion--when the skin reattaches--and it sucks to have the pedi fix it (trust me, I know!).  Slowly pull the skin back at every diaper change, and make sure that it's clean under there.  Put a little vaseline under there as well, to help prevent it from sticking.

Oh no!  It pretty much is every time I change his diaper.  Once I pull it back, it stays though.

  • I was worried about it too, but DH reassured me that it was fine.  He said basically it is "shrinkage" that they all experience, but the baby shaft is small so it ends up inside the skin.  As long as you keep taking it out to clean and so that the foreskin won't reattach I think it's fine.
  • My pedi said it happens because babies have more chub down there; as he gets older it should happen less. As long as the skin isn't attaching (like a penile adhesion) its fine and they will grow out of it.

If you're pulling it back and it's staying, you're probably fine.  Just make sure that you're putting vaseline in there too.

There are different types of circumcisions now.  Some don't remove all of the skin, but push it back instead.

  • our pedi did say that once the fat pocket goes away around age 2 it will lokk alittle bit better, but that he will always have a little bit of extra skin down there. I've seen my labor buddies boy and DS looks nothing like him.

Ditto except our pedi didn't fix it, it tore apart on its own and we had to go to the pedi because I didn't know what happened. We have always pulled the skin back and it still reattached.
