? for those who use Dr. Garbarino (or just another formula question

I have met with her and I liked her a lot. Today, I called back to her office because I had a question about what type of formula she recommended and I forgot to ask her at the first meeting and someone from her office called me back and left me a message stating that she recommends similac advanced or enfamil something... can't remember right now, they did make it a  point to say she does not recommend using any type of generic brand at all.

My sister has a six month old and her Pedi told her that the generic brand is fine.

  • OOps Didn't finish posting before I hit enter... but just wanted to get your opinion on generic vs. name brand... Thanks!

  • it's all made under the same fda guidelines, and just as other products are, most of the time a generic product is manufactured by the same people, but the distribution/marketing process is different, hence the lower price.

that's why when peter pan pb had that recall a few years ago they also had to recall the wal-mart brand.

i've been very upfront with our pedi (we take dd to arnold kagan) about giving generic and he's totally fine with it.

  • our doctor is 100% fine with generic IF your child tolerates it..  I'm super frugal and would have loved to use generic.  It just didn't work for DH..  I know specifically that Enfamil does does manufacture any private label formulas.  I wish they did. We have tried several cans, the formula isn't even the same color or consistency...  DS has really bad acid reflux and Enfamil plus Prevacid has been the answer for us...
  • The reason we haven't switched to a generic is because we really like the Early Shield blend which is proprietary.  It makes her poop much more like BM poop - so she goes maybe once a day and it's more liquid than most formula poops.
  • We see Dr Wilber in the same practice and I don't remember him saying anything either way about generic. We have always used Enfamil and our pedi had us switch to Enfamil AR due to Rena's reflux issues.

  • Orion used the Target brand version of Enfamil Gentlease and had no problems with it.  They actually have a side by side comparison of the nutritional values directly on the can.  Our pedi knew and never questioned it.
