2nd Trimester

sciatic nerve pain..

Has anyone else experienced this in their pregnancies? I've never had sciatica before but based on my symptoms I'm pretty sure this is what it is. I have barely been able to get off the couch because when I move it's too painful. Have an appt w/ the doc, but just wondering if anyone knows how they'll treat it?

Re: sciatic nerve pain..

  • i've been having some too, especially when i bend over.  i'm not sure what kind of treatments they'll recemmend, probably using a body pillow when sleeping and a heating pad.

  • Hey girl! The best way to treat sciatica for immediate relief is alternating ice & heat in 10-min intervals on the areas that hurt the most. (usually in the hips/butt)

You can also make an appointment once a week with a chiropractor to get adjustments to stretch out and condition your back.

I've had sciatica for like 10 years...its brutal.

  • fun stuff, i had a huge issue with it last week.  My doctor just told me try some ice and Tylenol.  Not much you can do.  If its on one side try laying on the opposite side.

  • I have had it pretty bad over the past few weeks.  I went to a chiropractor, starting using a body pillow and it has dramatically improved.  If you are able to get to a chiropractor, I highly reccommend it.

  • They are not sure mine is sciatic but I posted about this yesterday. My OB said that bc I already have back problems this could be related. Im experiencing major burning sensations below my right hip more into my leg.

They said to take tylenol... and/or 24 hour course of Ibprofen which I wont do.... and to stretch a lot so I went to the gym, did my hour of cardio and stretched like a mad woman. I will continue to stretch each day but I can only sleep in one position now.. on my left side with my right leg extended (if its bent the pain is crazy)

  • Thanks guys. I just got back from the doc and they pretty much said the same thing all of you are saying. Dina, I can't believe you've had to deal w/ this for 10 years! That sucks! Hope everyone feels better soon.
