What is the purpose of "lap pads?"

I saw these at BRU today and they seem like they're too small to be much help (I'm guessing about 12x12 or so).  Am I missing something here?

This is what freaks me out - all the stuff I don't know how to use!  We need a Nestie master list for registries and supplies!

Re: What is the purpose of "lap pads?"

  • I think the lap pads are completely useless.  Instead I bought two packages of the cloth diapers, I think they work much better.

  • I use them all the time!  I put them down on the changing station of the PNP because it's rough plastic on the bottom and it's cold when I put DS on it.  It also soaks up pee, which you will have a lot of with boys.  you can also put them on the regular changing pad to keep that one from getting wet or dirty.  I have used them a lot, but mostly on the PNP changing station.
  • I've heard of putting them in the crib so you have to change the sheets less often, but I'm not sure if it's a SIDS risk or not...

  • I use them all the time too! i put them on the changing pad. DD has peed on them so many times and i don't have to change the changing pad cover because the lap pad soaks it all up. i only bought like 5 or 6 and already want more. And I thought only boys peed when they felt the cold air!

  • We also use them on top of the changing pad cover and love them!

  • Kind of funny, but I kept one in my car in case my water broke! ?I never took it out after pg #1 and it was there all through pg #2. ?I use them on the changing pad as well.

  • Same as others. I used them when he was younger on the changing pad so I wouldn't have to change the cover every time he made a mess while I was changing him. He's wasn't much of a sprayer at changing time but his dirty diapers would get everywhere for a while.
  • I only use them when we're traveling (over pack & play or other surface when changing diapers).

For over the diaper changing cover at home, I prefer these made by Boppy:

I thought they fit the changing table better and also don't pill up like the lap pads when washed.  We washed them all the time without any problems.
