random NPR Q: nailpolish

what are your tips for keeping it from chipping off. 

I hardly wear nail polish because within a day I have chips and need to reapply.  I'd be ok with polishing once a week...but I don't have time to polish daily.

The manicurist girls at the salon I go to swear that if you use metalic glitter nail polish underneath whatever color you are using it will last much longer.  I guess glitter is nearly impossible to remove by itself.

Don't use the tips of your nails for typing or opening things, wear gloves while cleaning, try not to use hot water. ?

Before you paint your nails wipe them with some nail polish remover to make sure there's no stray nail polish or moisturizer on them and use a top coat after the color. ?

That's what I do and I only have to redo them once a week. ?

get a good base coat and make sure that you don't use old polish.

I use an OPI topcoat but never a base coat.  Base coat makes mine peel right off.
