WDYT- Rash question

So DS has had a runny nose, fever (ranging from 99-101) off and on, and a cough since Thursday. I took him to the dr and he said wait to see if he gets better on his own within the next 7 days. 

Well, this am he woke up with the same symptoms, with a fever of 101. He also had a rash on his belly and back - just little red spots.  They went away as soon as I got his fever down.  Do you think he could have gotten the rash from the fever?

The other theory is that the vapo rub (Little Remedies) I put on his chest and back caused it?  I have been using the same rub for over a year and havent had an issue...

Also, he didnt sleep at all last night.  He woke up at 9:30 and cried and squirmed until 1:30.  This is very unusual.  And I cleaned his carpet by his crib where he threw up last week...(if anyone remembers the bright red post) Could this have anything to do with it??
