I registered for a few just to give folks some more low cost options and to mark what I liked for future purchase, especially as usually places like BRU will give you a 10% or 15% discount for completing your registry. So worth it. Plus 6 mos will be there sooner than you think!
I had a friend of mine who had a baby last year take a look at our registries and she suggested I add sippy cups/plates/utensils, etc., because even if no one buys them for us, we can buy them ourselves with registry completion coupons. Also, she said five months goes by REALLY fast! Makes sense...
Yes, we figured it would give people more low cost options for gifts and we will need the stuff eventually! (Or we'll just buy it with our 10% registry discount coupon later on.)
I didn't but I wish I would have. HOnestly now when I go to a shower I try to get things that are needed "down the road" because all of a sudden at like 6 months you run out of the things you need and have to drop a fortune on that stuff....
I say do it and you can always get it after with your discount!
I waiver about that stuff. Clearly it's not for the newborn, so I don't want to look gift-grabby, but it's hard not to want to take advantage of possible gift-card usage and future discounts.
Plus, I'm finding that many of the gifts we need/want as first-timers are the big tickets ones - car seats, strollers, $100+ gifts. It would be nice to give everyone lower-cost options. It may even be a case where we return the small stuff ot get a big thing if needed, as manipulative as that may be.
We skipped it with the exception of a cheerios dispenser. I have sippy cups in the house b/c I have a four or five cousins under the age of six. So all we need are the little dish things, which we'll get eventually.
of course, aside from a few onesies and things of that nature most of the items on my registry are for 6-9 months. i got the bibs and food dishes and utensils and some play items. The baby won't be a newborn for very long so i tried to think ahead.
yes, because we're going to need them eventually. the last thing i'm going to want to do is go buy that stuff on top of food. i say try to get anything you can for your shower.
I think it is fine to register for these kinds of things, and I fully plan to.
I should also qualify this by saying that I'm the type of person who shows up to a shower with a gift that's not for a newborn ... because I think that waaaay too many people tend to register for (read: and guests buy) newborn stage stuff and then BAM! all of a sudden Mommy and Daddy realize they don't have this, and this, and this -- stuff that they need.
Everybody knows that a baby will go on to semisolids/solids within a couple of months, and I don't know anyone who has ever questioned putting this kind of stuff on there.
I did. Just a make of assorted bowls, spoons, and sippy cups. By 6 months, she'll be eating some baby cereal so it's not that far off and it's a cheap item for guests to buy off the registry.
Yes. All of the parents I have talked to, said to register for anything up to 12 months. People tend to be very generous when it comes to buying for babies. Plus they aren't very expensive so, if someone wants something smaller to go with something else, they can grab a cup or spoons.
Yes I did. I figure it will help to have some on hand for when the time comes. Currently everything we have is glass or porcelain so it will make it easier to have a few things.
