So I was reading my parents magazine tonight and there is a big spread on the best childrens hospitals in the country (seattle is 5th for childrens cancer care but didn't make the list in any other catagory, philly is #1 all around) Anyway they have this section of Lifesaving advice for Healthy kids...Here is what it says
1)Don't switch your toddler to a booster if they still fit in a 5 pt harness
2)Loud toys may cause hearing loss since kids hold toys very close to their ears, buy ones that have volume control
3)If your child is riding a bike and wearing a helmet make sure they take it off if you stop at a playground , it can easily get caught on equipment!
4)Since babies aren't protected from whooping caugh until they get their 3rd vaccination at their 6 month check up the best way to prevent this infection is to vaccinate everyone else in your household.
5)Cut your childs grapes in half until they are 4 YEARS OLD! Our study found that 4 in 10 parents mstakenly thought it was ok to give whole grapes to 1-3 year olds! (I'm guilty of this and I will be cutting from now on)
6)If you have a strong history of obesity or heart disease in your family give your 1 year old reduced fat rather than whole fat milk

Brothers!
Re: things I didn't know
(the grape thing)
good info!
Thank you!
I give Ben whole grapes too. Cutting them is such a pain. I guess I'll try harder.
really though, if grapes are bad, then there's SOOO much that's bad. Ben eats grape tomotoes too - I never cut those. And does that mean you need to cut everythng up to make it smaller than a grape? argghh..
I hadnt' thought about the bike helmet at the park. Good call there.
I heard about the milk thing about a month ago. Too late. I hope I didn't doom Ben to fatness.
TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.
I have never seen this, but my friends little girl fell from the structure, and ended up with some brain damage. She is 2 and lost most of her gross motor skills. Yes, she had to learn to walk all over again, and still has some issues, but is making a quick comeback. I am not sure if a helmet would have helped or not since the ground cover is usually wood chips or padded.

Maybe i'm making this up, but i think i've heard of putting elecrical tape over the sound holes (you can even get it in colours that might match the toy).
well yeah, she's only 11 months old! that makes sense. But when theyr'e 2 and have a lot of molars and stuff, it sseems like overkill.
And CDMay - I've heard that too... but then they can get the tape off. I've also heard of caulking the holes too... But the easiest thing is to take the batteries out.
