Sorta, but with slightly more competitive prices and less selection (at least in our area). But if you haven't been you should really really look for one to visit sometime. Amazing yumminess lives there!

It is like whole foods, but affordable. I don't consider it organic, since most stuff they sell is not, but they have lots of preprepared meals without artificial ingredients, that are super yummy and affordable and healthy. They also have wine for $3.00 a bottle that is good and good prices on many other high quality items.
It's smaller and less expensive than Whole Foods. I go there for a few items, like their frozen turkey meatballs, organic milk, and vodka sauce. They don't have enough of a selection to make it my only grocery store, but I love it. I just stopped by a few hours ago for more of their amazing fresh sliced pineapple. Delicious!

The thing that sets TJ's apart from other stores is that they sell most of their stuff under their label (Trader Joe's, Trader Jose's, Trader Luigi, Trader Ming.... they style it to the type of food). They sell some stuff from other companies, but most of their stuff is frozen or pre-packed and ethnic. Oh, and super cheap. Their cereals and stuff are so much cheaper than Safeway or Whole Foods.
Oh, and btw, most of their stuff isn't organic. They have a lot that is, but the majority is just food...
I probably get at least 50% of my groceries from TJ's and I have been since college- ten years ago!
Last night we grilled their pollo asada with corn torillas and organic pinto beans from TJ's. They are not as organic as WF, but they have a good organic selection and their prepared/frozen selection is awesome- AND CHEAP.
I go to Whole Foods for vitamins, specialty items, veggies and fruit, Ralph's or Vons for water, and veggies too.
They also sell this really great tangerine sugar scrub. On of my favorite spa treatments is getting a scrub, but I buy this stuff instead and get the same results at a total fraction of the cost (and obviously with less pampering), but still! It's great stuff.
We just got a Trader Joes in RI and I love it. It's so much cheaper than Whole Foods. The problem with our TJs is the fact that it doesnt' seem as large as other stores of it's kind that I've been in. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.
Re: OK WTF is Trader Joes?
A specialty grocery store.
Check their website.
A type of grocery store that has a lot of prepared foods, really good. Maybe they don't have one in your area though.
