Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Have you used sittercity.com? Or a similar site?

I just started checking out sittercity.com and was disappointed to see that you have to pay for the service.  Have you used it before?  Is it worth it?  Is there another site that's similar that's free?  Or less money?  I'm looking for a baby-sitter who would be able to do a hour or two at least one day a week (if I manage to line up some tutoring!) and maybe some weekend nights here and there if a family member isn't available.  It just seems like I'll find a babysitter and then be done with it because I'm not looking for a bunch of sitters or anything.

  • we used babysitease.com.  they are only in a few cities.  They charge an initial fee of $50 up front, then $8 every time you use their service.  You can schedule repeating sits though for just the one fee.  I have been really happy with them.  I would rather leave my child with someone who is over 18, CPR trained, and gone through an interview process than my cousin's 12 year old daughter's friend's older sister.

  • haven't used it yet, BUT i like that you have to pay, and the people who advertise themselves have to pay. imo, it means only people who are really interested will sign up. good luck
  • When I was in college I registered as a nanny on sittercity and I thought it was a really great resource for moms. I think its even better now that they have background checks available. I met with three moms and ended up nanny-ing for the family for 3 years. The kids were in my wedding and I still see them twice a week. Maybe you could sign up as a "babysitter" to see what the babysitters see and have to fill out and judge it that way.
