Babies on the Brain

Can't stop thinking about having a baby!

Hi all,

My DH and I have been married a year since this last December 21st. We're both 21, almost 22 and have both agreed that we wouldn't start having children for at least another 3 years.

But ever since we got back from our anniversary vacation all I can think about is having a baby! We talk about names and I've even gone as far as wondering through the baby clothing section and saved online pictures of nursery's.

I think financially we are ready to have a baby but we are still so young and we still have a lot we want to do! What can I do to stop this feeling of a ticking clock inside of me?

Thanks :)

  • Stay away from message boards related to babies.

  • Ditto Mrs. C.  If you have things to do before you have a baby, go do them.
  • In all honesty, I think age has nothing to do with it.  Its all about responsibilities.  I would think I would want to spend time with it being just my husband and I but I am not you.
Not sure what direction we are headed. Either way, I am up for the ride.

Excellent advice. That will be most helpful.

  • Come on, ladies. I think we need this to lighten the mood.

Oh, and P.S. Stay away from baby sites if you want go get rid of baby fever.

Ditto. Get a hobby. I would assume you may be finishing school or something since you have a specific number of years to wait so, get really involved there and just enjoy being a couple.

  • *quietly thinks she's the only one who gets an intrinsic release from being on the baby boards*  Dh has even commented that I talk about it less. I have always been the weird one, though. And now I like everyone too much to go away! ;)
  • Sounds like you already know the answer...

  • here's some food for thought..... I was just starting to look into day care for next January.    Over $17,500 for one year in my area.   Have fun thinking you're financially ready!

  • If you both agreed on a time to have a baby. I think you should talk to him about it. You could even make a pro an con list. Also financially, make a budget and see if you have enough funds and if you would be willing to give up more than a couple nights out with friends. Being debt-free would be the best bet before having a baby, but again, I would talk to your DH as it's just as much his decision as yours.

  • Actually, both my husband and I have great jobs. That is an extreme amount for daycare though.

  • Is moving up your timeline a possibility? You're young, but so what? If you're ready, you're ready. I'm wishing now that we'd started TTC earlier. Good luck with whatever you decide, but if you decide to wait being on a baby-related message board may drive you nuts.

  • My two boys are in daycare 3 days a week and it cost us $13,000 in 2008.  Yes, get out of debt, save as much money as you can, finish college, spend time with your hubby and for crying-out-loud stay away from these boards!  Hearing about others getting pg makes you want it even more!

You are still young.  TTC in 3-4 sounds good to me.  But, that's just me.  It's your decision.

    Good luck to you!!
