Coming out of hiding...

So, I'm coming out of lurking!  DH and I are officially planning to TTC in May and I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row before that happens...I'm a planner, kind of an anal retentive one at that.  :)

Do any of you ladies have any recs for a doctor, preferably in downtown Seattle. Also, any thoughts on the different hospitals for delivery.  I work downtown, we live in Renton.  So probably somewhere in either of those 2 locations or in between.

Also, any recommendations on pre-natal vitamins...anything else I need to be doing in the next couple months to prepare? I'm super excited and super nervous all at the same time!

Re: Coming out of hiding...

  • Usually the Dr. you choose will determine the hospital you deliver at.  I always recommend my doctor,  Dr. Hanrahan, her office is in downtown Seattle and she delivers at Swedish (an excellent hospital).

For prenatals I recommend Target brand!  They never once made me feel sick and they aren't ungodly big, oh and they're affordable which was important to me =)

Good luck its a very exciting and nerve-wracking time!

  • Yeaaaa!!!!  Finally!  I know how long you've been lurking ;)

So - if you aren't already, eating healthy and getting some excercise in will help (even just walking).  I have used the Target brand pre-natals and Costco brand and have found those to be just fine for me.

If you're in to understanding the technical side of trying to conceive, I highly recommend "Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschle.  I'm the kind that likes to understand my cycle and my fertile times - it stresses other people out...so...whatever works for you, but I think it's really helpful.

I have no recs for downtown, so I can't help you there...but you probably want a doctor closer to your house than your office, so you might want to think about using Valley if you're in the Renton area.  I've heard good things about them - FWIW.

    Good luck!!!!!

  • So, this is maybe a dumb question but....about how many times do you actually see your doc?  I'm just thinking that it might be really difficult w/ parking downtown to try and go anywhere outside the city and then back in on a regular basis.

Also, I signed up a few weeks ago w/ Fertility Friend online to figure out my cycles and that's been a good start, but IG I might pick up that book too.

  • If you have a regular pregnancy then you start out going once a month, then around 26ish weeks you start going twice a month, then I think it was at 35ish weeks you start going weekly.   So you are there quite often, and thats just if nothing else comes up and causes additional appointments.     I decided to go to a dr that was closer to my work than my home because most doctors dont have weekend hours and it was just easier for me to squeeze an appointment in during my lunch break,  I wouldn't have been able to get to a doctor by my house and back in time to still fit an 8 hour day in at the office.  That's what worked best for my situation.  =)
  • I recommend Dr. Robert Levine or any of the other doctors at Northwest Women's Health Care.  They are in a building to the west of Swedish that is connected by a sky bridge.

TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.
  • You do go quite often toward the end....and here's the catch - Lynchie has one way of doing it, but I'm just the opposite.  If something should go wrong, I wanted to be closer to my house than to my office.

If you were put on bed rest and having to go in a lot and not at the office anymore, it'd be a pain to have to get downtown - not to mention the issues with getting there quickly, if you need to, when it's time to go into labor.  Closer to your house might be much better.

That's just what I think though, I think people have done it both ways depending on what they're comfortable with.

  • Yay! Another TTCer ... Welcome!! There are not many of us on here who are TTCing, so it's great to have you.

I don't have any Dr. recs for you since I'm in Kent. As far as prenatal vitamins, I just take the Kroger brand one's from Fred Meyer. I have a bottle of 360 pills and it was about $18 for the bottle. My only advice is to take your time and enjoy the process. When/if it gets over-whelming take a step back. I was charting for over a year (for TTA and TTC) and when DH went out of town for the month of Oct. I just stopped temping and haven't started again (I didn't realize just how much I hated doing it - but that's just me).

Anyway, again, welcome and good luck!!!

  • Laura beat me to it.:-)  I was going to say it's nice to have another TTC-er here, too!  We've been trying for 3 months and will be back to it in the Spring.  I have to deal with an upcoming surgery and recovery.

I've been taking either the Costco, Target, or Rite-Aid brands of pre-natals.  I have to take them right before bed b/c vitamins always seem to upset my stomach.  I don't have any other rec's for you, though.

    Welcome and GL!

  • Ditto about reading TCOYF and about Target pre-natals. ?And I *love* our OB, but she's with UW, so that may be too far for you.

    Congrats on TTC soon!! ?:)?

  • I have to agree with the Target pre-natals. We just started TTC this past month, but I've been on them for awhile now. I've never felt sick (but I generally have a strong stomach, so who knows if that's meaningful.)

I've got no advice about doctors, I live south.

Glad to see you here. I don't know if you remember, but I think we sat next to each other at a GTG in the spring/summer at the Jones.
