I just had one Friday. They didn't put me all the way under but I don't remember a thing past them getting me on the table. What else are you wondering.
i had anesthesia and was out cold. i fell asleep as soon as they wheeled me in to the operating room and woke up in recovery. physically, i was actually fine. i had absolutely no bleeding, which i attribute to a very skilled OB/GYN. i had some minor cramping but was really tired more than anything.
emotionally, the D&C was actually good for me. i was ready to move past the m/c. luckily for me, i had Truitt to focus on and he kept my mind off it. there is no way i could have waited for a natural miscarriage...
if you want more info you can always email me with TMI or personal questions about it. i am open to sharing...
I believe that they put you all the way under for more emotional reasons than for physical pain. I've had some friends have d&cs done with just laughing gas and valium.
I think if this is being done for PP reasons, they might not knock you out. Especially if you are nursing and worried about anethesia affecting your milk.
However, I'm sure you can always request it if that's your preference as well.
I was knocked out for mine when it was for a miscarriage, but it could have been the circumstances. The recovery for that one was hard, but I think it was mostly emotional. The cramps sucked, but the pain meds and a glass or two of vino helped.
I had one for other non-pg related issues and I was semi-lucid. Recovery didn't seem to be that bad.
Re: D&C
Is it painful to recover from?
So Tasty, So Yummy
I havent really had much pain other than random cramping. Some people have a worse recovery. The emotional aspect is the worst though.
