transition before new baby, how long before

We will be using DS's nursery furniture for the new baby.  baby is coming on May 15th (scheduled c-section).  How soon before should I transition DS into his big boy bed??   DS sleeps in a toddler bed for naps when he's at his grams house so I dont think the transitioning part itself will be to bad, I just don't know how soon to do it.  the sooner the better??? would sometime in March be to soon to when the baby is coming?? Sometime this month/next?  I know I shouldn't push it to close to when the baby is coming, I dont want him to think he's being pushed out of his stuff so the baby can have it.

oh and FWIW he's not climbing out of his crib or anything, so that's not an issue.  I just dont want him to feel like his "stuff" is being taken away.

DD slept in her big girl bed for the first time last night.  We decided to just do it as a "New Year" type of thing.  I'm due May 10th and I wanted to give her as much time as possible to adjust/get used to it.  She did fine last night.  Her crib was actually recalled last week so the timing was perfect but we would have done it then anyway.

We plan to transition DD within the next week. We just need to paint and clear the fumes. I have heard from mom's of two to transition as soon as possible to give yourself time so we are doing it ASAP.  GL!
