Re: PP accessories

  • Soothies!

I was told you should use the washable nursing pads until your nipples heal, then use disposible (I really liked gerber).

  • squirt bottle= peri-bottle :)
My favorite nursing pads would have to be the Lansinoh (purple box) more pricey but so much better!

Im trying to think of what you didnt mention but I'd say you're totally on the ball...

I can't wait to see little mr. ryan!!

  • Yep that all sounds like what you need. I too liked the Lansinoh disposable nursing pads. Since we are in the process of moving I have seen all of my stuff. Tucks pads, Peri Bottle, and nursing pads. Oh it brings back memories. Not really good ones but certinley memories. I actually have some nursing pads left and I just tossed out the nipple cream. I don't think we will be having another baby for a few years if even at all :(

  • K - as someone who is going to be a new mom - what is a peri-bottle and is it TMI?  I haven't seen it in any of the books I'm scaring myself with yet.

  • I really like Lansinoh pads and lanolin as well! I also ended up with a thing of baby wipes, but I think there are ones for adults. I had a 2nd degree tear, and using the wet wipes was a life saver (sorry if thats tmi :) )

  • Am I going to need to buy a Peri bottle?  I thought this is something they would give me at the hospital...   If I need to buy one where can I get it??

    Thanks!

  • They give you the Peri bottle when you are headed home. Well they did for me. As well as the giant pads and some witchhazel pads.  I had some tearing and stiches all of these things are somewhat soothing after giving birth.

  • Oh the peri-bottles are so nice.  They help clean and soothe down there (warm water is the best!), wiping with toilet paper isn't exactly the greatest feeling.  The hospital gives you one to take home but I think I bought an extra one, Riteaid maybe? for our 2nd bathroom.
  • Lynchie - Like Kim said, they'll give you a peri bottle, but any ole squirt bottle will do, really, from what I've seen of what a peri bottle is.  You could always ask for two at the hospital.

What in the heck are "Soothies"???

Also - I have a supply of the Tucks wipes that are doused with witchhazel.  I've already been using them since that area is pretty sore and swollen.

  • Do you need these same items for a C-Section? i guess not the squirt bottle, but the tucks and stuff?? I am not prepared for this! ;)
  • Angie - you're still going to need most of that stuff with a C-Section - probably just not the peri bottle and the tucks.

You'll still have the bleeding as your body cleanses your uterus.  Perhaps not as much as a vaginal delivery, depending on how your doctor handles your C-Section, but you'll still have that.

So, you'll still need pads, the nipple pads, nipple cream, ibuprofin (but I'm sure they'll give you something stronger than they give a vaginal delivery), etc.  You just won't have the same degree of trama to the girlie parts - thus no need for tucks and peri bottle.

However, you might talk to your doctor about it...  nothing to worry about, everyone I've known has been sent home with some of this stuff - they just had to have their husbands run to the store for more when they ran out of the hospital supply once they got home.
