Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Is this true?

I heard that the better your baby sleeps during the day, the better they will at night.  Now I'm not sure if this meant the more they sleep during the day the better or if it means if they got a better quality of sleep during the day.  DD didn't sleep much during the day yesterday so I was thinking she would sleep great at night but it took us until 1 am to get her to sleep!

Re: Is this true?

  • My mom and grandmother both have always said "sleep begets sleep," meaning the more they nap the more they will want to. It certainly holds true for my DS.

  • It's been true for us. Especially when she was younger. If she doesn't sleep well during the day, she's over-tired & it's much harder to get her to sleep.
  • Yes, that is true. Sleep begets sleep. The less sleep she gets during the day, the more overtired she will be and the harder she will be to get down at night.  Sleep is VERY important! Day and night!!
  • I have to agree...  I was worried that DD slept too much during the day and she wouldn't sleep enough at night, but so far she has been sleeping for 10 hours at night and still get enough naps during the day!
  • so very true :)
