hi everyone... i am 15 wks pregnant and have had the beautiful symptom of bad breath...I have been popping altoids b/c my friend's doctor told her that chewing gum can be dangerous...does anyone have any feedback on what is and is not safe?
First of all you shouldn't go by what your friends doctor says, you should be asking YOUR doctor these questions! I have never heard of either of them being unsafe but you shouldn't be trusting people on the internet or anyone other than your doctor to give you this advice!!
What? Gum and Altoids are both safe! As PP suggested, you should be asking your own doctor these questions. I think your friend was incorrect about what her doc said about gum - I have never heard that. I chew several pieces of sugarless gum every day.

Unless, of course, the gum your friend chews is filled with used needles and loaded guns. That could be unsafe for her/her babe, but then again, I'd call my doctor to make sure.

This must be MUD. Or someone with an AE trying to see if they can boot me out of my puppies and rainbows mood. COVERGIRL IS THIS YOU?
Lol, I would come up with something much better than this... If you had puppies and rainbow answers for this question, I think you would need to be banished....
Your friend's doctor may have advised her from not chewing gum because many gums are sugar free and have aspertame, which some doctors recommend avoiding during pregnancy - even though there is really mixed opinion on whether or not it is safe to consume during pregnancy and how much aspertame can there be in a stick of gum anyway?
Ask your own doctor, not your friend and not a board of strangers.

ditto PP.
Altoids are unlikely to give your child a 3rd arm, but if you're concerned you should ask your doctor, not your friends.

Altoids are perfectly fine.
