bleeding diaper rash??

DS has never had an issue with diaper rash. Occasionally his butt will get a little red, we'll put some desitin on and by the next diaper change it usually looks better. Tonight when I went to change his diaper for bed (It was full of poop and he had been sitting in it for maybe 15 min) when I wiped him he started screaming and the I looked and noticed a little bit of blood on his left butt cheek. I wiped it again and it came back. It was a small area and wasn't too bad, but it was def. hurting him. I put bacitracin (sp?) on that one area and desitin on the rest of his butt and he seemed to calm down a little. Has anyone dealt with this before, it is serious? Is it just from diaper rash or is it something else?

TIA

  • Emerson has had diaper rash that bad once before.  Try using cotton balls and water to wipe him off.   Also keep ointment on him to keep it protected and try to give him so naked time until it clears up.  It'll take a couple of days.

  • I had this with DD, the rash turned out to be a yeast infection. Took her to the dr. after I noticed the bleeding for a couple days with no improvement. The dr. gave us a RX for nystatin.

I know how much it can bother the LO. DD would cross her legs and keep them tight because it would hurt her when I changed her diaper. Good luck! I hope your DS feels better soon!

  • Change him often to keep the skin drier and if it gets worse or doesn't clear up in a week I would call the pedi.

  • My BFF children all get diaper rash like that when they are teething.

PP was right though...dab with cotton balls or a warm wash cloth. Wiping will just make it painful. Try to keep a diaper cream on it to protect the area.

  • DD just got over a pretty bad diaper rash (she was teething). I highly recommend Triple Paste (target and walmart have it). I noticed an improvement on the fist day. I also used unscented wipes and literally blew air on her bottom to make sure it was nice and dry before putting the Triple Paste on and I also changed her diaper every 1.5 - 2hrs. GL!

  • We had this when my son was teething. My DH researched and found a rec for bag balm (udder balm) and it worked waaaay better than anything else. The rash and bleeding, everything, was faded by the next day, totally gone by two days.
