Made in the USA cribs?

Anyone know of cribs made in the USA? I asked at BRU, and the person said a few of their more expensive ones were, but in looking online, I don't see anything that proves that. Anyone know?

Re: Made in the USA cribs?

  • I can't say as I've ever though about that, its not really one of my qualifications for being the crib I'm looking for. Chances are you may be spending more if it is made in the US because it is cheaper to make things in foreign countries in general than here.

  • MH and I are struggling to find the same thing.  We are Canadian and we are looking for anything (especially furniture) that is either made in Canada or the USA....trying to stay away from China...you never know with the Melamine, lead paint or shoddy construction...usually stuff made in China is not made of solid wood either...but they still charge top dollar for that crap....

Outsourcing has only made it cheaper for the middleman so HE can make more money!!!

  • I'm really interested in finding USA made nursery furniture, but it's looking like my budget isn't going to be that nice to me. This is one of the sites I've found that looks like very good furniture - alot of Amish things (though judging by his theology, I think the man who makes the furniture is Mennonite, not that that makes a difference in the product). This is their nursery page.

It's much more expensive, but if your'e looking for quality, then I'd say you have to be prepared to spend more for it.

  • I'm not sure if you know of any by you, but around here there are several furniture stores that are baby/child only.  I am sure they would have a selection.  I'd try that.
  • also, I was going to say that looking online prob won't get you what you want, you will have to look in person.
  • The Straight Up Crib sold by Land of Nod is made in the US.  It's $599.
  • What about a local hand-made store?  They are more expensive but they are REAL wood, and of course they are made here in the US.  My mom recently bought her living room furniture at one and the quality is so strong, and it's beautiful.  It's just a tad bit out of my budget though, so JC Penney for us.  Not sure where there stuff is made.
  • Baby's Dream cribs are milled in Peru but finished here in the USA (GA). They are solid wood and about $300.

  • It's very hard to find furniture made in our own country. I'm actually working on a list of where cribs are made because I don't know if my hand me down is going to met the current safety standards and I want to be prepared to buy a new one if necessary. I posted a short list of crib origins on the Nursery Decor board recently.?

I second the recommendation to look at Amish furniture. They've been building safe furniture for generations.?
