Methergine after D&C

Did anyone else take methergine after D&C?  I guess it's supposed to help with bleeding and contracting your uterus...

I'm having next to no bleeding (D&C was yesterday)... and I'm wondering if this is just because of the methergine and if I'm in store for a ton of bleeding once the meds where off (took my last one this morning).

Re: Methergine after D&C

  • I had my D&C on Wed. and I had minimal bleeding that day and only a few spots since. I was not given any medication after the D&C. I know that is not really an answer to your question, just saying you can have the same blood flow without the meds. Hoping that the bleeding does not come & we are on our way to AF!! GL!

  • That is comforting ... thanks.

I guess I don't really know what I'm looking for, since I know that everyone is different!

Here's to AF coming quickly (can't say that I ever wished for that before)!

  • I totally know what you mean, I used to just think AF was a pain in the butt, now I can't wait to visit with her!
  • I did take Methergine after my D&C.  I will say that I didn't have very much bleeding initially.  For some reason I want to say that it took about four days for the bleeding to really kick in.

  • They also gave me methergine right after I went into recovery after my D&C that I had early Thursday morning. I had very little bleeding, mostly spotting all day Thursday and Friday, however it did pick up some last night and today. Although, I wasn't released from the hospital until last night because of complications and I think that the bleeding is heavier simply because I have been up and moving around and have been off of the meds now too. It's still fairly light bleeding though with minimal to moderate cramping. The OB on duty at the hospital told me not to expect more then spotting to light bleeding and that if any really heavy bleeding or cramping occurs that is not normal and I should return to the ER.
  • the methergine is to get the uterus back to its original size. You should take it weather you are bleeding or not. Trust the phamrmacist!!

Oh trust me -- I've taken all of my doses, I would not skip out on something prescribed to me.  I was just wondering if I was in for a cruel surprise when the meds wore off.....  So far, so good
