strollers

please rec your stroller

(i've probably posted this before but i cant find it)

i need a lightweight stroller with enough room for my diaper bag to go on the bottom and one that reclines and is able to incline so she can sit up perfectly. mady has outgrown her evenflo travel system (the seatbelt doesnt fit her anymore and that stroller doesnt incline all the way up at all)

i'm looking into a chicco, maclaren or combi (although the combi looks so narrow)

thx a bunch!

Re: strollers

  • i have the chicco capri umbrella stroller. it doesn't recline much at all though, and a diaper bag def does not fit in the basket, but you can hang it from the handles. i would have gotten the maclaren triumph, but it was way more expensive, and the volo doesn't recline at all.

  • We love our Maclaren Techno XT and it has all the features you mentioned.  We got it when Noah was one and it has been our best purchase kid related so far.  It's been amazing to travel with and do everyday things with.  Now that Kate can sit in a stroller I wish it had a snack tray (never needed anything like that for Noah) but I'm looking into aftermarket options.  I wish I had the Peg Pliko P3 - it fold the same and has a snack tray, even if it is a bit heavier.  That would be perfect for Kate (right now) even if it wasn't ideal for Noah.
  • We have a Combi, and it's definitely lightweight and slim (which I like a lot).  But the basket on the bottom is for crap, and if you hang a bag on the handle (we bought Stroller Swiv'lers hooks to use to hang things), you have to be careful not to hang anything too heavy.  If the bag(s) are too heavy, when you take the kid out, it will tip back.  I'm not sure if the recline goes all the way flat, but it does recline quite a bit.  We don't use the recline, obviously!

If I were to do it over again, though, I probably would have gone with a Maclaren.  My mom has a Maclaren that I use at her house, and the ride is so much smoother.  The Combi is not very easily maneuvered with one hand, and it's a bit annoying.  The reason we went with the Combi was the bar in front (not a snack bar), b/c Cedric liked to lean out the front, and I liked that he had the bar to hang onto.  But I would prefer an easier ride (better wheels).

Now that we are expecting a second kid, I am thinking about the Phil and Ted's.

    Hope that's helpful!

  • I will more than likely be purchasing a Maclaren Quest. I was at BRU yesterday comparing it to the Chicco side by side and I did not like the feel of the Chicco. Neither have baskets big enough for a diaper bag though. You can easily maneuver the Quest with one hand and its just soooooo smoothe! I wish I would have known about this before having Mikey because I wouldn't have gotten our Pliko P3.

Oh and FYI, learned this last nigh, beware of good deals on Maclarens. Whomever you buy from make sure they are an authorize Maclaren dealer (if you go with that brand). Apparently there are knock-offs out there, who would have known! I found lots of GREAT deals on ebay but they are probably too good to be true, probably not even real ones. And if they are real ones if they aren't an authorized dealer you'll never be able to get service from Maclaren if it were to break.

  • Hey there:

I've gotten tons of great stroller advice on the stroller message board on the babybargains.com website. They are stroller obsessed over there and can give you lots of great opinions. Some of these ladies have like 10 strollers LOL.  I went with the Pliko P3 because it reclines all the way and it folds pretty easy. I also liked that it had a very smooth ride and easy maneurvering. With all the research I did before purchasing I never found a single stroller where ladies commented that the basket feature was functional for them.. I think this is a universal problem with all strollers! I will probably buy a Maclaren when Nathan doesn't need a bigger stroller like the P3, it seems to get the best reviews.

    Good Luck, Jackie

  • we had a combi and you are right, it was a bit too narrow and didn't fit our bags at all.  We now have a maclaren and LOVE it, that would be my recomendation. GL
