C-section versus vaginal delivery for twins...

Just curious as to how many of you "had" to have a c-section versus were able to safely deliver their twins vaginally. I am 16 weeks pregnant with twins and already have a 3 yr. old daughter whom I delivered vaginally. My doc has stated that it can be done but that sometimes women deliver the first baby fine vaginally but that the second baby gets stuck and ultimately, the mother than has to be rushed to the OR for a c-section.  I would much rather deliver vaginally if the babies are in the correct position and am curious to hear about other delivery stories. The thought of a c-section scares me but if I have to have one I will.....whatever is best for the babies!

  • I'm "that one" your dr talked about. Both were head down. I had a great delivery with my dd, after she was born, ds heart rate went way down. We switched to c section really quick. I had to deliver vaginaly in the OR just in case. I'm very thankful I did.?

Honestly the v/c-s birth was what I was scared of, but it wasn't too bad at all. It was pretty scary looking back (DH almost lost DS and I both, other complications). ?

only 2-3% of twin birth results in both. ?

  • My girls kept switching positions all the up until that last week. They took turns being vertex, breech and transverse all in one week when I was 36 weeks pregnant. At my last OB and peri appointment they were both vertex. I already had a c-section scheduled since my girls are so unpredictable and always changing, however at my last appt my doctor gave me the option again between the vaginal birth or keeping my c-section. After much debate I kept my c-section. My doctor refused to deliver a breech baby on me if after baby a came out and baby b decided flip around and I really did not want to go through both a vag. and c-section all in one day. I was also nervous for the c-section not knowing what to expect, but it wasn't too bad. It has been 2 1/2 weeks since my delivery and I feel really good, my incision is looking great, and I am moving around really well. Those first few days hurt pretty bad and the first week was rough, but over all I am doing great.

  • I just had my twin boys vaginally 7 weeks ago. I was wondering the same thing the WHOLE time i was pregnant and had the hardest time deciding. My twins were both head down the last 3 months i was pregnant so i really wanted to deliver vaginally. Now that i did i wouldnt take it back. i couldnt imagine having to be cut open for the whole experience. You deliver in the OR in case anything were to happen and you need an emergency c-section, but like the other women said ive heard its pretty rare. my second baby was turning a little bit but they managed to get him out fine with a vaccume, however the tearing was pretty bad.  anywho, even though it was hard work i would definitly go vaginally!

  • i had a vag delivery with my DS and had a horrible 4th degree tear- so i am having an elective c/s this time around - i don't want to risk anohter bad tear which could give me permanent incontinence issues due to extra scar tissue, etc.  My OB agrees... but had that not been the case he said he'd do vag delivery if both were head down.
  • I delivered Vaginally. Both girls were head down, but after Baby A was born, Baby B flipped around. Thankfully...I had an old-school doctor who has performed lots of breech births so I was able to deliver B Breech! It was pretty scary when she came out blue and unresponsive tho....after a few mins she pinked up and started crying! :)
  • I had a c-section and I have had zero recovery issues (both babies were breech).  I was out of bed the morning after my c-section (which was at night).  I know I am probably one of the lucky ones but for me recovery has been very easy!
  • I had my 19 mos. old DD vaginally, and had a c-section with my twins 1.5 weeks ago. I think the c-section was most definitely the way to go - easier experience for MOm & babies. The operation was nothing & the recovery has been a breeze. I am feeling much better physically after my c-section than I did from my vaginal delivery, but maybe I am just one of the lucky ones.  The twins were both head down, so attempting a vaginal delivery was an option, but my doctors discouraged it a bit (although said they would do whatever I wanted) and I am so glad they did!
  • I had to have a c-section due to both being breech.
  • I delivered vaginally and I'm very glad I did... super easy recovery for me!

  • I had to have an emergency c-section with my first set of twins due to IUGR and the little girl had quit growing.  This time I around I was hoping I could do a vaginal delivery if possible, but the OB and specialist say that it probably won't happen simply because the chances of my uterus rupturing are high since it's already been strtched thin with one set of twins, now another.  I AM bummed about it because I wanted to have that experience, but the babies health (and mine) is more important.  But to think that I'd have 4 kids and never even experience a contraction is weird!

So I know what you're feeling, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
