Any tips to cut nails??

Now that DS is WAY more mobile and WAY more inquisitive its a mission to cut his nails. He used to just sit there watching while I did it, now he wants to grab at the scissors. He lets me do his feet only because I'm able to do them while he's in the high chair. But his hands forget it! Anyone found an easy way to cut their toddlers fingernails?

  • I've done it after she has gone to sleep for the night and has been asleep for about 2 hours.

Also, at night when she is really cuddly and tired, I put on her favorite show for a few minutes so she is enthralled in that and can usually get most of them cut.

  • We're having the same problem.  What we've found works best is my husband distracts her by singing or playing with a toy and I am able to trim them then.  It takes 2 of us just like her baths do now also.
  • I usually give her something to hold or play with in her other hand. Today it was her travel case where I keep her nail clippers.

It's not perfect because she still squirms a lot, but at least I get it done.

  • At night when she is asleep- its the only way. We have a dimmer on her light in her room so I put it on the lowest light. She doesn't even wake up.

  • I guess I'm blessed.  My DD loves lotion and girly things so I do hers and then let her pretend to do mine and then we put lotion on each other's hands.  She will sit still for the nails because she knows we get to do lotion afterward.
  • Tranquilizers.

Really though, I just sit on the floor with them, pop on some Sprout and go to town while they are distracted.

  • i do couple of nails at a time. since they will not sit still for very long. my boys are better then my little girl. for her it is a two person job.
  • We could never cut DS nails when he was asleep, because he was such a light sleeper.  Grrr.  I usually cut them first thing in the morning, when he's still groggy and sleepy.  Either when he's drinking his sippy of milk, or watching TV.
