Registry Tips?

Hi all,

As a FTM, I'm struggling a bit trying to figure out what to register for. I'm wondering if our STMs have any advice for things that are a must and things that maybe you thought were necessary but didn't end up using?

We've been very lucky to get a lot of the big stuff (crib, bassinet, strollers, lots of clothes) second-hand from friends and I'm trying to be fairly minimalist overall. I feel like baby stuff gets out of hand very quickly and can also be wasteful.

If this isn't your first rodeo please share your must-haves!

Hope everyone had a great holiday ☺️

I looked at the Finnish baby boxes for inspiration when I made my registry. You don't really need much right away, and I think it's easier to figure out what you like / want after baby arrives.

We asked our family / friends to prioritize second hand gifts and simple things like books. The registries were mostly for diapers / wipes / consumables and a few things I was confident that we'd use. I don't think we really ended up with anything we didn't use except one wipe warmer which a friend gifted us second hand. I just never bothered to set it up. 😅

If you plan it out right you can get free baby boxes from several of the registries with samples of things to check out. We basically didn't have to buy bottles or pacifiers after getting the free babylist and Amazon boxes last time.

I went back and looked at my registry, and these are my most used items (I’m not sure if you’re planning to breastfeed, so I’m including those items in case you are):

breast pump (I got one for free through my insurance, Aeroflow website. Make sure you get the correct flange size)
    milk storage bags
    Nursing pillow
    burp cloths
    pacifiers
    bottles/bottle brushes/drying rack
    Diapers/wipes/aquaphor/Diaper pail
    back seat mirror
    car window sun screens
    carseat
    Thermometer
    nail clippers
    nasal aspirator
    Bath tub thermometer
    baby wash and lotion
    black out curtains
tummy time mat and contrast cards
    swaddle/sleep sack
    baby carrier
    baby monitor
    Dresser (doubled as changing table)
    changing pad
    rocking chair
    mattress protector
    crib sheets
    Sound machine
    pack n play
    baby swing
    baby lounger
free and clear laundry and dish detergent

Sorry, I know that’s a lot and that I included some obvious stuff. But, hopefully it gives you some ideas without being too overwhelming! I didn’t include any postpartum items because the hospital provided waaay more than enough. Maybe look into the Owlet sock. It’s very expensive, but gives a lot of moms peace of mind.
