Randoms week of July 16th

Hey! I like to chit chat.

I am getting ready for a backpacking trip that I’m taking this weekend in the back country of Alaska. I’m slightly worried my stomach will betray me and I’ll get sick out there. 😬 I have never been able to go on these with my friends because I’m either super pregnant or breastfeeding an infant. So since I’m only 4 weeks I figured this is my chance. Anyone else have any fun plans coming up?

  • @emeraldcity603 Wow that sounds so amazing! Hilary here. We have a family trip planned in August in Cape Cod and then a wedding with family in September in Chicago! I’m hoping to be past the stage of exhaustion by then! I can’t imagine going on a hike right now, but kudos to you! Have fun and be safe!

I have actually been somewhat concerned about my level of exhaustion. I had to take a nap yesterday because I got a wall and all I had done was some laundry. 😅 We are leaving in a few hours and I am actually super nervous. I got my pack down to 30lbs. Still heavier than I really want it to be but I hike often with my toddler in a carrier so I think it should be fine.
  • My oldest brother is in the air force and hasn't lived in the same state as me since I was like ~8. On Wednesday, him, his wife,  and my nephew came into town now that he is no longer stationed in Japan and they got to meet my husband and 3 kids! It was such a great visit and I'm so delighted to have seen them. EXCEPT I got sun poisoning. I don't do well in the heat and sun generally and I guess two hours was just too much because today my face and eyes are so swollen it looks like I was stung by a bee. Everything is so uncomfortable and since I'm pregnant I can only do the very basic Tylenol, aloe, cool showers. I hate taking Tylenol while pregnant but just don't have better options!
  • @emeraldcity603 wow that sounds like a lot of fun. I bet the views in AK are beautiful. I'm going to be taking a trip to Hawaii next weekend and hoping to hit some trails that way also. I am a hiker myself and also carry my toddler too, my husband and I take turns. My level of exhaustion has been so difficult but I'm really hoping that turns around soon. I was hiking well into my third trimester first pregnancy just a bit slower. Hope the hike went well and the weight on the pack was okay!
  • @thescarletmom that sounds awful! I don't think I've heard of sun poisoning very often so this is new to me. I can only imagine how painful this is. 😞 I would suggest lavender spray for sunburns, I've read it can help with cooling the sunburn down. Hope you feel better soon!
  • @thescarletmom that sounds awful. Hope you get some relief soon!

Kudos to all the hikers - I don’t hike even when I’m not pregnant. Whatever the outdoorsy types, I am the total opposite.

My husband and I are away for the weekend in the Berkshires - he has a quick work trip. I miss my daughter but I also really enjoy sleeping in on a king sized bed.
  • @thescarletmom I've never heard of sun poisoning, that sounds terrible! I hope you feel better soon!

We don't have much going on this weekend, finishing meal prepping for my SIL who had their baby this week. I've already made bacon gouda breakfast sandwichs, sausage cheddar breakfast sandwichs, breakfast burritos, cheesy chicken burritos, and creamy spinach and chicken pasta. Today I'm going to make brownie lactation bites and the day before we go visit I'll bake her a fresh loaf of bread. My toddler has been asking both to go fishing and to go horse riding, today we will probably head to the river so he can fish with daddy and tomorrow I'll stick him in the saddle with me in the round pen. He only has the patience for about 5 minutes of that anyway and while I'm pregnant I won't take my old man out of the arena. My husband is on his own for horse training for the next 9ish months unfortunately, he's delaying getting new colts until next spring, but just not worth the risk.
  • @lizdiane456 girl you're a real one! I've always wished we had friends and family who showed up for us like that, but I take a lot of pride in getting to show up for others anyways! I'm hoping now that we have a friend having a baby (she's due in October! We were the first of our friends by a lot) we might actually have someone who will do things like that for this baby. I plan to show up for her anyways, and know that it may be she won't be able to for us as a FTM 5 months pp!
  • @thescarletmom we didn't have anyone with our first so I know how much it sucks. I don't anticipate the favour being returned with this baby but still gonna show up for her like I wish someone had for us
  • This is my last weekend before the school year starts so we’re heading up to Prescott for da day trip at one of my favorite EASY hikes!

We are already seeing leaves change so I’m expecting fall to hit anytime soon. I have been making plans like this for every day that I can. I don’t want to miss any of the sun before the snow hits! I can’t ski this winter so it will be a slow slow winter.
