Crying

I’m 28 weeks pregnant and I’m crying most days. Is this normal or Will the stress affect my baby? I’ve always been told a calm pregnancy means a calm baby, so I’m worried. My partner isn’t the most sympathetic in nature which probably sets me off more and is causing a distance. Has anyone else been through this and any tips to help?

Re: Crying

  • Is there something specific that is stressing you and causing you to cry more, or are you just feeling very emotional? I think both are normal but what to do may vary depending! I've definitely done some crying lately due to stress. I've been seeing a therapist to help with some strategies and doing yoga and meditation to help me to not dwell so much on the stressful situations. I'm not so sure that calm mom = calm baby or the opposite, but I definitely know too much stress isn't good for you OR baby!

  • Thank you for the response. I recently uprooted my life to live in my homeland country after being away in 8 years and had to adjust my career with it. My job is stressful and can be long hours so may be contributing to the stress and emotional toll. It’s reassuring to know it can be normal.
  • Oh wow that's a lot to be dealing with on top of being pregnant! Do you have access to counseling services at all? I'm doing mine through my work EAP, it's only a few sessions per year but it is really nice to have someone to talk to about all the stuff going on.
  • It’s okay to cry, especially with everything going on physically and emotionally. Reaching out and talking like this is already a strong step.
  • A lot of people feel more emotional around this point. Talking to someone, even a counselor, can really help.
