Working out

Hi yall, this is my first pregnancy & I have this fear that if I keep on working out something bad will happen, I talked to my doctor about it when we confirmed the pregnancy and she said if you were active before it’s still good to go but just listen to your body, if something doesn’t feel right then dont do it, and if your tired then rest. Anyone else have anxiety or is it just me lol 5w1-2d is where I’m at

Re: Working out

  • Hello!

I’m not sure what kind of working out you’re specifically talking about (aerobic, anaerobic, resistance training, yoga etc) but before my first pregnancy (this is my second) I was regularly lifting weights. I remember being very worried and paranoid about it as I continued through my pregnancy (mostly towards the end).

This article helped me out a lot and has a ton of useful (and reassuring info) for weightlifting during pregnancy:

Let me know if that link doesn’t work, but TLDR; exercise does literally only good things for you and baby! Some exercises you might have to modify or switch out with other things but, if you can, do keep working out! Obviously listen to your body and your doctor, but no, you are not alone in feeling anxious! 😅

  • Im in a similar spot! First baby - 5 weeks 2 days andd I am nervous about working out just the same.

But someone said to me - "your body was made to move, and it was made to grow a child." dont do anything super strenuous, listen to your body for sure, and remember to read about all the benefits for exercise while your pregnant. Just be informed and dont push too much harder than you have been
  • After doing my own research on this, I’ve learned that it’s actually worse to NOT exercise while pregnant. Being sedentary does not lead to optimal pregnancies, births or postpartum periods. By all means, listen to your body and be aware of your surroundings, but motherhood is no joke and being healthy and strong can only help!

Now, I just need to get that though my own head once again and get off my recliner. 🤦🏼‍♀️(moving makes me sick right now, so trying to work with that).

You should avoid strenuous exercise. Moving our bodies makes us feel more energetic and more focused. Your doctor is right. If you feel like something's unusual, stop and take a rest. Happy exercising, mum!
