December 2025 Babies

Surprising my parents

So I’m from the US but live in Spain and my mom is coming to visit early March. I’m currently 4 weeks 1 day but but then I’ll be 7 weeks 3 days. I have my first OB appt on April 29, so hopefully we’ll have scans and have already heard baby’s heart beat. The only thing is my mom is visiting me alone bc my dad couldn’t get off work to come. My sister & husband are the only ones who know so far. My sister suggested having my dad over to her house so he’s not alone & for us to FaceTime them with my mom and announce then. Anyone have any other ideas? I really wanted to surprise my mom at the airport but I don’t know if it’s wrong for her to find out before my dad. What does everyone think?

Re: Surprising my parents

  • Hmmm I don’t know the dynamics but so exciting you get to tell your mom in person! Do you think your dad will care if your mom finds out first or that he would be the last to know? Hope it’s a great visit!!

  • If it wouldn't cause drama between the two,  maybe FaceTime your dad before your mom lands and then surprise your mom in person? That way they get their unique special announcement (your dad finding out first and your mom in person) and the timing isnt too far in between?

  • I think it’s sweet that you’re thinking of both parents. A group FaceTime with your mom there and your dad at your sister’s sounds like a thoughtful way to include them both at once.

  • If you really want the airport surprise moment, you could still do it and let her know she can’t tell anyone yet. Then tell your dad shortly after. That way, she still gets her moment, but he’s not far behind.
