Overwhelmed with all the options

Hey everyone
first time mama here, anyone else completely overwhelmed with all of the options for literally everything??
I have no idea what I need or what’s useless for new baby.

Re: Overwhelmed with all the options

  • Yes! I was telling my husband it should be illegal for there to be so many options for literally every single item lol.
I went on Reddit and read a bunch of posts about newborn stuff, watched a few videos and thought really hard about what our day to day life will likely look like with a baby. I also talked to a coworker who had a baby last summer. Then I went and researched the individual items I wanted, ultimately settling on what was available and for a reasonable price (aka I gave up on trying to find “the best” as it was just giving me a headache lol).
I have most of the big (and small) items purchased already - maybe too soon but I knew I’d overthink the hell out of it if I didn’t just get whatever seemed reasonable at the time (I made an enormous purchase at Target, they let you stack coupons so I got everything for 30% off, yay). I can highly recommend this approach - I feel like if I tried to spread the purchases, I’d end up overspending on the cute stuff and getting a bunch of things we probably won’t need. It’s also a good reminder to know that you can buy stuff after baby comes too.

Same! I listened to the podcast “How much stuff does baby really need?” from the What to Expect podcast. It was really helpful to know what I actually need early on. Recently, I finally figured out which car seat to get. I “test drove” strollers over the weekend, picked a couple and then found which car seats fit on both strollers. It gives me the peace of mind to know I’ve settled on a car seat & freedom to choose which stroller later on.
  • Same here. I've found joining FB groups really helpful, there's lots of posts about what people have found useful and what they recommend. I'm getting most things secondhand off marketplace so that takes a lot of the brand decisions away. I honestly think there's only a few items like car seat/strollers where it really matters, most things are pretty generic, and people keep telling me newborns really don't need much! Good luck
